I didnt write down the stepping, i know its idiotic but i bought my opteron 165 close to about 3 weeks ago when the steppings were really good and most of them were getting upper 2.8 close to 3 on after market. Right now i have this ram. Im running the ram at a 5/4 ratio, my fsb is 303 mhz, my ldt is 2.5 i had it at 3 i dont think it makes a diff, i also have my multiplier at 9. The voltage is currently set to 1.4 The thing i notice though is that if i try and lower the ratio for my ram, the comp will reboot again, i guess the memory controller doesnt like that ratio. I know my ram could goes to 235 mhz on a 1:1 ratio so thats why im running the divider. Any ideas on how i can get furthur. I have a thermaltake big typhoon and so far at 2.7 ghz it says in smart gaurdian it idles around 25C and load around 30, but i dont kno if thats true. What do you guys think thats limiting me?

The G.Skill should overclock well. But at stock or near stock volts, you might not be able to go that far. Should try raising the voltage.
Drop to an even lower RAM ratio if you want RAM overclockability out of the question.

You say your RAM can do 235, but with a 303 fsb and an 4:5 ratio it's running at 242. That combined with this:

The thing i notice though is that if i try and lower the ratio for my ram, the comp will reboot again

makes me think it's got to be the memory holding you back.

Run a ratio that puts you _well_ within the limits of the memory at all times while you overclock the CPU, find its max, then clock the memory up again.

What testing programs are you using BTW?

Sounds like memory holding you back to me. When I overclocked my 165 I set my ram down to the lowest setting so it would be totally out of the equation. Then once I got my final overclock - in this case 2.81GHz, heat became my enemy but the CPU I believe can do more - I worked on getting the RAM back up to speed and fiddled with the timings. The secondary timings I found made a big difference there.

How did u find out its using 242? Cpu-z tells me its running at 227.6, I use orthos and run 2 instances on that with small ftt, i also use prime 95 and run 2 instances on that also for about 15-20 min, i just need some more advice though on how to run them both, im not sure how to use prime that much, same with orthos. What should i do in order to see how far my memory would go, and how do i know the equation for running a divider and knowing what it will be running at.
