If I overclock my cpu using a windows utility, will the settings stay if I format the HDD like it does if you do it through bios? I think the answer is yes but, I'm not 100% so I had to ask.

When you format a hdd all settings in the Windows or data in the hdd will be erased. Regardless if you do it through Bios (Bios utility) or through Windows CD. Since your question is confusing, the bios settings will remain the same.

Sorry, Asus has an oveclocking utility that will allow you to do some overclocking through windows. It has a few features lile allowing you to increase the FSB and a few more options. What I am asking is that if I make the changes in windows do they change the bios ? Thanks J

I don't use the program but I do believe it resets the bios. When you set your fsb w/ the asus program in windows it does not change untill you restart. Use the bios, besides having more options you don't need the asus program taking up space on your rig.

hey just a question I have never overclocked my pc parts before but to overclock do you just go into your motherboard menu when starting the computer and change the speed of the cpu setting there or something?

can someone explain to me what fsb speed is?

No. There is alot more to it than that You need to do much more research before you even tihink about overclocking. Learn about how each computer part works before asking that question. fsb = front side bus. That probabaly means nothing to you. Do some research. Google is your friend!

OK, yeah most premium mobo's have oc'ing utilities like Gigabyte has the Easytune and MSI also has a different one. But they all work on the same principle. And the answer to your question, is yes the utility actually sets the changes to your bios. So if you format your hdd, the oc'ed settings stays until you reset it in the bios or reset it using the same mobo utility program.

Thank You! I just needed this answer to prove it to my buddy. If anyone else would like to prove me right please let us know. Thanks, J

Not quite sure. Think that software OC utilities DO NOT make changes in bios. Because after every reboot you are back to stock speeds.....;
