Overclocking Question

a friend opf mine has an old athlon 800. the first series that come out. bought it in august of 2000. in his bios he is able to change the FSB a lil not very much we made it run at 850 or so fine. there is no way to change the multipliker. what he is woundeering is if he gets the latest bios updates and such if there is a way to "unlock" his processor to get more overclocking out of it. anyhelp woudl be good

To change the multiplier on a Slot A Athlon, you need to open the cartridge and use what is known as a "Gold Finger Device", in order to get anywhere.

A BIOS update alone will not be able to do what you require.

thanks but that dosent help because its no a slot athlon its a socket A one. i know this becase it usd to be my computer before i sold it to him.

if its socket A, doesnt that mean its a thunderbird?
and if its a thunderbird cant you do the pencil trick?

yes its a thunderbird. the reason im asking is bvecause i wanted to know if the penisl trik will work. didnt know because its so old. and in the bios theres no place to change teh multiplier

Well first get the latest bios (or check if theres jumperes on the mobo for multiplier adjustment??!!) then if the features are there to adjust the multiplier, do the pencil trick on the L1 bridges then have fun..
