Alright this question has plagued me for a long time. Keeps me sitting on the john as I seem to do deep thinking there.. heh

My system:
p4 1.8a@2.25
Asus p4b266-c
512ddr pc2700

Anyways, when you overclock you move up the FSB (front side bus) for the cpu as well as the voltage. What does this put your board and ram at fsb wise? My board and ram run default at 266 and the board locks the pci and agp fsb speeds. So I am wondering how far it overclocks my ram and boards fsb when I overclock my cpu. Do they make the jump to match my cpu's new bus speed? Or do they stay the same?...

This questions is driving me nutts...

I am not positive, but I am pretty sure it works the same on that board as it does for me... the RAM equals your FSB....Anyone know for sure?

Well, in general, when you raise your board's FSB, you overclock your CPU.

CPU Speed = Multiplier x FSB

Voltage is completely independant of FSB. You only have 1 FSB setting for the entire board, after which it is either multiplied, or divided.

Your Ram, generally runs at the same FSB as your board, that of course doesn't take in consideration of DDR (x2) and RD(x4)

Your PCI bus always tries to run at 33 MHz, which means, if your FSB is at 100Mhz(200) the PCI bus runs at 1/3. If you're at 133(266), then it runs at 1/4.
Then your AGP always tries to run as close as possible to 66Mhz, meaning at 100, that bus runs at 2/3 and if you're at 133, then it runs at 1/2

All the buses require different speeds, however, when you increase your FSB you increase all of them.. they just run at different dividers, to decrease, however, there are only a set number of dividers, after the default speeds begins to run all your busses out of spec.

All the bus speeds are interconnected, I hope this answered your question, i mean it does seem confusing if you're not really sure.

Ask if you have any more questions.
