Hi all,

Does anyone else have one of these boards because I really don't don't trust the temp readouts (Abit EQ)

With my old ASUS Board the CPU temp never went over 55 but with my new board it is quite happy to up to 60-65. I tried a mild overclock FSB 190 - 1.65 V Core and the CPU temp nearly touched 80!

I can't really over clock because I don't trust the readouts.

Anyone else have any problems?

Mark.

With such large temperatures, I believe you put the heatsink on wrong. Clean the paste, apply some new paste and reseat the hs.

Also, look into doing the L12 mod since you'll be removing the heatskin anyway.

I have reseated the HS about 3 times now and reapplied Artic Thermal Pasted.

If you don't put it on evenly and flat and firm; like if it's tilted up a bit. Or if you poorly applied the thermal compound.

Actually it can be rotated 180 deg. and will still attach to the mobo. You need to make sure that the place where the heatsink jogs up relates to where the socket jogs up. I don't know how else to explain it.

That's not the real problem though; you need to apply thermal paste in a very specific way. In a nutshell, you have to:

-clean the core and the heatsink with alcohol (carefully)
-apply a tiny drop (grain of rice size) to the core and to the heatsink where the core will touch it
-spread out the stuff on the core evenly w/ an exacto so you're left with a paper-thin coat
-using a lint-free cloth, massage the paste into the heatsink
-never touch anything with your fingers; always use saran wrap or a lint free cloth
-put on the heatsink

Good luck. It sounds like your board may be reporting inaccurate temps.
