The AMD stock heatsink is just awful (so is Intel's for that matter).

I'd highly recommend and upgrade for that cpu as it's the highest end Kaveri available.

Grab a Coolermaster Hyper 212+ or EVO and it'll be nice and cool.

you sure you have the heatsink properly secured? Also, the front fans should be intakes, the top and back should be outgoing

FYI....In bios your cpu runs full speed ahead and has no power saving features enabled.

How are the temps when in windows at idle and load?

You didn't smother the CPU with thermal compound, did you? That stuff should only be used in tiny quantities.

Do a couple tests:

1. With all the fans running, open the side pane and see if temps decrease.

2. Unplug the front fans and the top fan and see if temps decrease( leaving only the rear and CPU fans running).

Is the heat causing your computer to crash/ have problems? Let us know what your results look like.

The stock heatsink should be sufficient for the bios and standard use. An after market heatsink is needed when overclocking, using the cpu at its max for extended periods of time, or in a southern climate.

The only time I have seen temps rise while in the bios is when the cpu heatsink was not properly secured or the clasp broken. Pull the heatsink off, replace the thermal paste, and reattach the heatsink. It may be worthwhile to double check there is not a plastic film from the manufacturer stuck to the top surface of the chipset heatsink. I have had that happen to me before. Drove me nuts trying to figure out the problem.

I don't think you have looked at temps too closely in a BIOS then. CPU temps are always going to be higher in the BIOS than on an idle desktop, where power management comes into play.

That is true, that I may not have paid much attention to the temps in the bios but 45C in the bios is negligible, nothing to worry about. However when temps start rising above 60C in the bios, something is wrong with the heatsink. At least in my experience in a somewhat northern climate.

Rising temps are mentally confusing because a person believes they put everything together properly and the temp reading must therefore be a defect in the monitoring sensor. The outcome resulting in either ignoring the temps or biting the bullet to take the motherboard out of the case and remove the heatsink in a last ditch attempt to figure out what is wrong. That is a lot of work and a person can easily feel like they put the heatsink on properly, only to unexpectedly find that something was wrong.

I have pulled heatsinks to find the plastic clip dried and broken and the heatsink loose on the processor, or find it wasn't properly placed, even if I just put it together.

I wasn't disagreeing that his temps are off (and neither is the OP) just making sure that when we are giving people advice, it is correct.

Nothing wrong with getting a better hsf if you want to omarp27, just know that some time and effort may be all you need.

You might find some help in this thread, starting around post 34. The OP ended up with some pretty good results.
