not looking good, any suggestions would be helpful. i installed it and applied the arctic silver 5 just as the instructions told me.

fan- adda 2400rpm

2.6C @ 2600mhz = 50.5idle, load is worse of course

i do not want the noise of a tornado. i had better temps when i used my slk-900 and the black p4 retention brackets versus this method

suggestions?

Your system is comprised of very similar components to mine...

Main difference I think is the HSF.
My system is idling right now (overclocked) at 41c, playing Halo it gets up to 51c.

Would you consider getting a Zalman?

What direction are your heat pipes facing?

You have the fan aimed down at the heat sink?

I've got one on order...arriving today. I'll post my results once I get my new rig put together.

yes, the fan is aimed down at heatsink, the air is going downward onto it.

the heat pipes are facing the rear of the case, is this the proper orientation?

thanks for all the replies

i just ordered a panaflo h1a, and after reviewing the proper way to apply thermal compound, i believe a mistake could have been made there.

according to the arctic silver website, when applying AS to a p4, you should put some in the center (about the size of a short grain of rice) and let the heatsink's pressure spread it out for you; and it is not important to have thermal compound from corner to corner on the p4's heat plate.

i believe i made a mistake by putting TOO MUCH thermal compound on the p4, (about a marble sized ball), which could be causing my unusually high temperatures.

The SP-94 installation instructions definately could be better.

The pipes should be aimed down. I have read a few people here and there say they should be up, but this is not correct.

I just put together my new rig yesterday and have the SP-94 with a Thermaltake Smart Case Fan II.

Idle temps are around 30c as I recall. Hottest it has gotten to is 50.5c under load (3DMark2001 + Prime95). I have the fan set at low to medium right now. On high it's just too loud. My wife asked..."what's that vacuum cleaner like sound?" LOL.

If you have your pipes facing up your temps make sense. Someone else either on this forum of over at Sharkey had the same type of temps and it was the pipe direction.

I believe the Arctic Silver website (if that's what you are using) calls for an amount the size of a small grain of white rice or 1/2 a bee bee (sp?).

I'd say a marble is too much.

They also recommend not spreading it. Just put it on in a little spot and place the heat sink directly on top. The weight will spread it out.
