You somehow need to better explain your question. First of all, an ata133 is an ide drive. Second, you cannot hook up one hard drive of any kind in a raid configuration. If you are asking about two hard drives, this is a simple issue. You format one drive as drive C and the other as D. You can then place applicaations and data on either drive or transfer files as you say. The hookup should be one drive on the primay controller as the master and the other on the same controller as the slave. You can also hook up the second drive to the secondary controller as master if you choose. HOpe this helps.

You can install one hard drive on the ata133 port without using raid. If you desire, you can install a second hard drive on this port configured as your slave drive. Keep in mind, you must have an ata133 drive to take full advantage of this ports speed, but i suspect ata 100 drives will work just as well on this port. Use the other ide port for cdrom, dvd, etc.
You can only use the promise controller if you have an sata hard drive. Again, you do not have to use raid, but you must install the drivers for the sata controller prior to installing xp. When prompted on bootup, press f6 to install a third party scsi driver and make sure your floppy with the sata driver is in the drive. If you only install one sata drive, and you do not want to use raid or boot to this drive, then the drivers will not be required. Again, the ata133 is an ide drive so nothing special is required. The bios should automically configure this drive.
I believe what you want to do is install one hard drive on the ata100 and one on the ata133. This should be simple. Install the 133 as master ( or single drive if you install no other drives on this port) on the 133 port. Install the ata 100 drive as master on the secondary ide port. Configure the first as C drive and the second as D drive, and you should be on your way. Curious, though, why not buy two identical drives and install two ata133 drives on this port as C and D, then use ata100 port for cdrom, etc.?

If you are going to start with an sata drive, then your next hard drive must also be sata to use them in a raid configuration. It is considered essential that both hard drives in a raid configuration be identical in every respect, even the firmware. If you buy a drive now and an identical one in the future, you could still run into problems because of firmware updates. If at all possible, buy both drives now.

Make sure you install the raid driver using the f6 i mentioned. You will need to do this to be able to convert to raid in the future. I personally use Seagate Barracuda 120 GB disks configured as raid level 1. The disks have worked just fine for me. I personally would not get hung up on warranties, as it seems all hard drives have a fairly high degree of reliability. Usually, if a computer componet makes it thru the first 90 days or so, it is destined for a long life with proper cooling.

You wont know the difference between ata133 and sata raid. SATA is the drive of the future, uses small cables, and therefore i just happen to like the sata drives.
