P4S533 problem already!

i dunno if i need to set jumpers on this thing or what but i couldnt get it to post. it powers on but no beeps no video bios or anything. i got a brandnew 1.6a chip and only the video, harddrive, floppy, Ram Samsung 2700 were in. dunno if i missing something or what. the CPU might be bad?
there goes my excitement for the weekend

Probably not the chip especially if it was retail box, unfortuanately sometimes products are rushed to market before they are ready.

Well provided you have all your connections hooked in properly and your power supply is adequate { at least 300 watts preferably 350 or over} I would think its your motherboard.

well think about an antec (PP-412X) 400 watts. i got 20 pin hooked in, 4 (square pin hooked in) and the aux 4 pin hooked in (thats just one of those power outs).
power in floppy and harddrive. and floppy and harddrive hooked up correctly. 512 mB ram of samsung DR333 in first memory slot. cpu with the retail fan. and finaly the video card. thats all. it wont beep. i dunno blah.

the odds of it being a motherboard problem is alot higher than a processor problem, so many more people have problems with mobo than processors.

I'm sorry I don't know your experience level, but I would place the mobo on the anti-static bag it came in, and reseat the memory and video card. Be sure your cpu heatsink is plugged into the correct fan connector, and try booting up with just the basics. Also check your power switch lead.

yah what if the mobo speaks "no cpu installed" "no cpu installed" in an infinit loop and you see the fan on the video card is not moving? power is going in the cpu fan and the harddrive you gonna here it clickin... but the board spoke. so i guess its a cpu problem right?

page 49 of the manual is the usual confused "clear as mud" explanation of the power plug ins.
theres the 20 Pin ATX connector
theres the square ATX 4 pin +12V connector to poop up the cpu (ATX V1)
theres also the 4 pin in line Aux connector (AuxV1)
The Aux has a +12V and a +5V pin (yellow and red)
The ATX square molex has 2 +12V and 2 Grd pins (yellow/yellow/Bl/Bl)

At first read, it would appear the Aux is just for peeps who dont have P4 "ready" PSU = "Auxillary"
But it only has 1 +12V lead, meaning it can handle less amperage than the square one.

Then it says make sure the +5VSB line has enough amperage (300W min PSU), which brings up the
question whether they mean the AuxV1 or the OTHER PSU leads - the square 4 pin ATX has no +5V

But anyway:
Make sure the default voltage jumper is set to 2-3
Make sure the jumper free is set to 2-3 also (manual is wrong - says 1-2 in text but shows 2-3)
And after the above, clear the cmos (also 2-3)

I would try your ram in a different slot, on occasion that seems to be the trouble.Also may want to be sure nothing is grounding out the mobo.

i tried the ram in the middle and i am sure nothing is grounding my mobo cuz i already got the case laid out for it. this is the same case i m using now. i just pull a board out and put in a different board. the same drives and the same all. except for mobo, cpu and ram. so i swap those three and i reconnect.

Had a similiar problem before. Took me a while to figure out what the problem. Appearantly, I plugged something in the wrong spot and moving it to the correct one solved my problems.

yah well that happend before but i am not sure this time whats going on. the only clue that i am getting is the mobo is speaking to me "no cpu installed". so i would first replace the CPU and see whats gonna happen you know.

Hey Thug is right about the power connectors! DON'T use both the Ezplug and the ATX12v plug! If your power supply has the correct P4 plug, then use that! If it doesn't, then use the 4 pin molex connector. The board is probably screaming No Cpu, No Cpu because the power circuit on board isn't allowing the P4 to get the proper juice since you have BOTH plugs installed. I know for a fact that when I had the P4B266, it stated NOT to use both connections at the same time!

Also, its probably 98% correct that its not the CPU. It is most likely a bad motherboard if the above doesn't fix the problem...

BTW, when you seat your P4, make sure that it is all the way in the socket. Unlike AMD chips that are heavy, the P4 tends to kinda float in the socket. Push it down all the way, hold it there, then lock the level down...

hmmm you gonna make me go and swap boards again for the 4th time today. but hey its worth a try. i realy hope you are right. cuz i wanna get this parts in somewhere instead of it layin around my room. and i know they will lay around for at least a week if i only got this thing to work. but i will give it a shot.

Dino just because the board is telling you no cpu installed does not mean the board isn't screwed up , also when you put your cpu in you didn't force it did you?Its a zif socket so it should have literally dropped into place.

After dealing with larger AMDs and P3s etc I was taken by surprise with the small size of the P4. You have to check that it is properly oriented and installed very gently in the socket (absolutely no force required). Darn thing is so small for my big fingers. And installation of the Heatsink should use only a reasonable force - basically if you use the retail HS you must try and get it right it right first time - avoid repeated attempts to install.

na man i did more tests on the board.
i am sure the CPU is seated right and its HSF is installed properly.
but here are the tests i made
test 1 : 2 ATX power connectors in, with CPU + VCard only systems speaks "System failed memory Test"
test 2 : 2 ATX Power Connectors in, with CPU + RAM only system speaks "System Failed VGA Test"
test 3: 2 ATX Power Connectors in, with No CPU , RAM + VCard Only system speaks "NO CPU Installed"
test 4: 2 ATX power Connectors in, with CPU installed, RAM, VCard with Monitor attached , system speaks "No CPU Installed"
test 5: 2 ATX power Connectors in , with CPU installed, Ram VCard with Monitor NOT attached, system speakin nothing.

alright i am not sure how to anaylze test 4 and test 5 but it sure shows that its a CPU problem.

Sounds really like a power connector not being seated properly to the motherboard. Is the led on the motherboard lighting up? Are any fans connected to the mb turning?

IF this is a SOYO..... good luck. I had (2) go tits up within a few months.

Try it with only the 20 pin power connector and the 4 pin "P4" connector..dont hook up the "aux" connector (the hard drive type connector)

ya the led of the mobo is ligthin up. all fan on board go on even the video card fan.
and i did try just the 2 ATX connections but still no good. suxors.
