P4S8X with a V8420

I am building my first PC.

Got Asus P4S8X
Asus V8420
Crucial PC3200 512MB
P4 2.66
Chieftect Scorpion Tower.

I switch on and the fan just wirls up and down I get very short beeps and nothing else??

Is it the ddr400, or is ot the video card (not sure if the card is a 3.3v) If it is then the board will have problems!!

I need some help, Please!!

Which fan is doing the wirling?? I've searched to see if the vid card is 3.3v or not and have had no success, possibly the box or more likely the manual should tell you.

When you say very short beeps. How many beeps? or does it just keep beeping? I see nothing in the manual about short beeps, however it does say long beeps in an endless loop is "No DRAM installed or detected".

First check to make sure that the jumpers are set correctly (to default) this is on pages 24 25 and 26 of the manual. Go ahead and clear the CMOS while your there. Then make sure your ram and vid card are seated propperly, if you can see any of the gold leads on the vid card after you've installed it, its not fully seated. They do require some force. You can also try the ram in different slots.

I've had this board and it did not like Corsair XMS 3200, but was happy with Samsung 2700. So if you have a stick of DDR2100 or 2700 I'd suggest giving that a try.

This board does not support DDR400. Page 2 in the manual. Unless there has been a bios update. Which is not to likely I've heard Asus has kinda given up on this board..... The ram I'm guessing is your problem.

I have now tried ddr333 and still no luck.

I have reset the cmos and checked all the jumpers.

The cpu fan spins up then down and I hear 3 clicks from the speakers, then nothing then 3 clicks again ia a loop in time to the fan spinning up then down.

I have taken the video card out and swithced on the power and get three clear beeps to say no agp card detected.

I do notice that when I switch the board on woth the video card in the AGP led lights up for a split second.

I have contacted ASUS and they say the mobo and video card are ok, I think I may have an earlier version of the card!! 3.3v as the card in the manual states that it is AGP 2x/4x.

The fan spinning up and down bothers me. Do you have the auxillary
12v connected??

And the CPU fan is connected to the correct fan header.

Did the CPU fan react the same when you removed the vid card??

Do you have or can you get a hold of a PCI video card to try.

If none of this solves the problem, then I suggest trying to boot up
out of the case, with just CPU, Ram, and video connected. Board may
be shorting to the case.

I should have asked this first thing, what PSU do you have.

The video card will or should have a revision # on it, that may help decipher
wheather or not its 3.3v.
