When I read that Gigabyte released the beta BIOS, I pulled my Asus Maximus out and put my Gigabyte P965-DS3 back in. I get the same overclock I had with the Asus board so I'm returning it and sticking with the Gigabyte.

Hmm. Isn't responding to each email a good thing? And why did you get into a flame-fight with the support anyway? You sold your 965 board and got a P35, what's wrong with that? It's your fault for not waiting a bit longer.

Obviously who is responding to those mails isn't an engineer or someone who knows about BIOS development, so you shouldn't rely on them.

Ditto, you can't follow everything they tell you like henri says. That's why you go to forums and the like.

US site still not showing the Beta bios.

Update

Well i flashed my bios for my 965P-DQ6 yesterday with the bios from the german website 12 beta bios, and im happy to report that everything seems to be runing fine, my OC of 2.3 on my 6300 held all night without a hitch i did not stress test. The only issue was the CPU fan i had to switch one of the options to Voltage(the lower option) they used to be in auto both of them but for some reason the fan was running at full speed.

I will be recieving my 8400 today i might have a chance to install it but not to mess with it too much. I will let you guys now how everything goes as i progress.

i have the same board and would /greatly/ appreciate hearing about your experience as I am on the verge of ordering a e8400. my only problem is that i do not have another socket 775 cpu at the moment. this said, is it possible to flash the bios of the ga-965-dq6 rev3.3 with the e8400 in from the beginning (from what i understand the board does not work natively with this cpu, but will it even allow you to go into bios/and or flash it?), or would i need to get a hold of another 775 cpu, flash the bios w. a usb stick, and /then/ install the e8400...assuming the patch works. or does anyone else have any ideas? thanks

I dont think it will work like that. You have to have a suported CPU to even boot. I did recieve my 8400 a few days ago, but i haven't had the chance to put it on. I will tomorrow.

So yes you would have to have another CPU that is supported to get to the bios and flash it sorry to bear some bad news. Find a friend with any LGA 775 CPU as long as is not a new 45nm it will work the old P4 will work too, even the LGA 775 Celerons, those are dirt cheap.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16819116040

cheapest one in new is 44 bucks. Best of luck.

Once i install it, i will try to boot with the backup bios that is not the F12 see if the old bios allows the CPU to work. If i can do this that is.

It's because of flamewars with CSR's from people like us that 965 owners are even able to get a beta bios for 45nm....

the first email was at the bottom...

Where do not know where the bios was obtained from, beta bios are only testing bios which will not be official. There are no guarantee on stability with the beta bios which you are using.

Question : Mine is 3.3 the newest revision of the 965 that you made. Anyway, i already found a beta bios with 45nm support. It's made from your bios engineers in germany. I dont know if these are official gigabyte drivers, but it was done on the gigabyte germany forum by an OFFICIAL GIGABYTE MODERATOR. So its obvious your boards support 965. and its also obvious your coorporation wants more money and big profits!!!!!

Everyone is boycotting Gigabye and using ASUS because of Greed!!!
Answer - 558211
Answer : Other manufacturer's 965 boards may support the 45nm processors, because they are newer revisions, recently released. Their older revision (of the same model) may definately does not have support for 45nm processors.

Question : I am a GIGABYTE CUSTOMER!
Gigabyte should offer support to its customers the same way you offer excellent products to the DIY and enthusiast consumer markets. ASUS & MSI, & DFI are offering excellent products of the same quality of GIGABYTE motherboard solutions. These products are given support via BIOS updates for use of the new intel processors. Gigabyte not following the direction of these leaders and forcing its consumers to purchase new versions of Gigabyte boards sends a message to the DIY computer user across the world: avoid GIGABYTE because of poor bios support and overall customer satisfaction. It is a fact that intel 965/ICH8/9/8r can support 45nm cpus. Obviously you are upsetting the customer to make more profit. It is also a fact that your coorporation will lose sales and reputation due to these malicious acts against the people. I will personally speak the truth on many computer forums of which i am a member until your customer support provides a reason or truth to this matter of why your 965 is incompatible with 45nm processors. Protect your good Gigabyte Reputation for the long term. THIS give you more profits than a crappy marketing scam.

Thank you

Question : I have compatibility issues with 4 pci cards... 1. an ieee1394 firewire card, 2. wifi card 3. lan card 4. pci ide controller card. All 4 of these devices show an error code 10 (device cannot start) in device manager. I have since given up on trying to get them to work after several different attempts at reconfigurations and xp sp2 reformats. My final question is this: will my board support 45nm socket 775 intel core2duo "wolfdale" e8400 dual core processors?

I harrassed them cuz i knew there would be a bios for it. but after they kept turning me down, i sold my board. literally 48hrs later, a link on that german forum came up for the download.

RualF , could you also please tell me the way in which this board flashes? can you just save the new bios version to a thumb drive and navigate to the bios update (is this called 'q-flash' or something on GA boards?) in the bios and then load them from the thumb drive?

Well thanks for all the hard work Jared, is good to see you fighting the one battle, keep it up. I side with you on this one is total BS, is funny that on their own site and older intel chipset the 945 is 45nm support, lol. Wow. Pretty much this will be my last gigabyte board the way treat us, and thanks to the engineer that released the beta bios.

To comfirm another one, the beta 12 bios for the GA-965P-DQ6 3.3 does work with 45nm dual core, i swap my E6300 a few hours ago with the E8400 and bang, no problems so far. I have not OC yet, will try some in a few days and report findings.

Driftwood to update the bios you will need a floppy. pretty much download the bios from the website it will be on a zip file type, unzip it or unpack it to the desktop and that remaining file will look something like this

965pdq6.12i

That's the beta one for the DQ6, the size will be 1,024KB save that to a floppy and just that file on the floppy.

Once you turn the computer on i believe is F8 or F9 to go into the bios flash utility. Once in there is pretty simple. Look at the options you have and look for the upload bios or update bios, it will look for it on the floppy and the board will check it and ask you if you want to update the bios.

thanks a lot for your help/updates Raul.
i ordered a e8400 last nite before i even knew if it would work or not because i saw a good price ($202 on buy.com) so its on the way...my RMA'd ga-965p-dq6 is also on the way from gigabyte from last december. anyway, did you get a chance to find out if the installed e8400 will post and/or allow the new bios update? i have also read that some boards do not even require a cpu to be inserted because of the quad-bios on gigabyte boards. (in particular i read this for a p35 board that someone needed to update for the e8400). if not it /will/ be possible for me to get a 775 e6600 and use that to do the swap...i just really dont want to ask a friend to remove his cpu in order for me to do that.
i also look forward to your experience in overclocking and other issues, hope it all goes well or i mite end up shelling out for a p35. could you also post the ram you are using for your successful setup and the configuration, i know many boards have issues with certain ram and dual channel, much less with these beta bios. ( i have corsair xms2 2x1 which i plan running dual channel)

Well somewhat bad news for you. I can't find and option to boot under the backup bios which has the old F11 bios which is not officially suported, so i can't test that theory. so it looks like you will have to get your friend to let you borrow his CPU. Yup the OC part i will wait a bit, i really dont see a need to with this CPU is already plenty fast, but i know i will i just want to OC to see what i can achive

raul . even if you dont test the e8400 OC yet , could you let me know an idea of the FSB and multiplier you were able to achieve on this board using your old e6300? since rev 3.3 natively supports 1333Mhz i am wondering if a 400*9 is possible with this board to achieve 3.60Ghz ... 450*9 for 4.0 Ghz would be great but i am not counting on it.

I have gotten my 6300 to about 3.1 or 3.2 but it was not stable. I will blame it on my memory cheap A-DATA anything more than the rated speed it would start to have issues. It was stable at 2.93 which was over 400 FSB somewhere around 420FSB but with a less multi offcourse on the 6300. With the higher multi of the 8400 i think you just will have to have some decent memory and you should be ok.

I've got an E8400 running on my ASUS P5B-E (P965) chipset on the latest non-beta BIOS 1704. So there are some P965 boards that "officially" support Penryn.

With an overclock, it seems to have a shutdown bug, though, where the system fans stay on when I shut down the computer, and I need to hold the power button after it 'shuts down' to fully shut down. Otherwise, no problems .

Well guys the US gigabyte website actually has posted the beta bios, so if anyone was somewhat scared of this, one more reason to not be to afraid of it.

This is for the DQ6 3.3 look up your respective MB to see if they updated you guys.

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Sup...el.aspx?ProductID=2453

Just looked again, and it appears the older revisions of the DQ6 have the same bios, so the people with the older mobos might be able to support Peryn good news.

I just notice too, that it just says support for 45nm it does not mentioned dual or quad, so maybe the quads will work too
