Awesome. I must've been one of the few that really liked PacRim.

I really like it as well. I think I giggled with glee like a little school girl when the cargo ship was dragged through the city and used to bludgeon the kaiju.

And the LFE...I had a subwoofer that shook the room so having the happen every time they took a step was audio heaven for me

I wont get too hyped up about it. I generally dont like a lot of CGI heavy films, but I've got a soft spot for Del Toro. Pacific Rim was great. Charlie Day & Burn Gorman were fantastic. We'll see some tendrils of Del Toro's influence here as he is a producer, but, I dont know if it will have the same overall quality. Anyhow, sequel should be fun, I hope!

It was a lot better smash 'em up popcorn flick than the Transformers movies.

I liked it a lot more than any of the transformer movies. Pacific Rim understood the reason we were there, to watch big mechs fight stuff. Transformers took itself too seriously.

Oh well, the whole franchise was ruined for me when someone pointed out railguns were a much better way to fight back than walls and giant robots.
I'm sure you're being sarcastic (I hope) but if that bothers you but the fact that a metal/alloy that could support that kind of weight whil running or, you know, falling from orbit, doesn't... you're doing it wrong.

Ewww.. This was Del Toro's baby.

Wouldn't have made for a very good movie. Railguns < Giant Robots < Giant Robots with Railguns > Giant Robots with Railguns and at the last second pull out nuclear bombs that they had the whole time and could have ended it 10 minutes in

These issues were covered in the movie:

- Can't just hack the kaijus up, their blood is insanely toxic (kaiju blue)
- Can't just keep nuking them... what's the point if the whole world is irradiated?

Even if you only nuke them right as they come out of the portal, that repeated radiation is going to eventually do massive, massive damage to the sea (as more and more nukes are required for the larger and more frequent events, that is)

I thought it was a very good example of what a good non-transformers big robot movie should be. I think it knew what it was, what it wanted to do, and then it executed it well

Awesome. I was just thinking it was time to rewatch the first Pacific Rim, now I have an extra reason with the sequel on the way.

The entire worlds resources will be spent on building giant robots to punch them in the face.

I don't know. Railguns are pretty cool. I can do compromise though. How about a giant robot with an arm mounted Railgun?

Solution to the whole problem of nukes, railgun, etc.

Superheated/plasma sword. Cut the beasts to pieces while simultaneously cauterizing the wounds. I mean, if they've got the tech to build a 75 story mech and the power to get it to sprint like a track star... then I'm pretty sure they've got the tech to make a plasma sword.

Now that you've hacked all its limbs of, while keeping it alive... shove a nuke up its ass and push him through the portal.

Damn, talk about a thread resurrect.

Pacific Rim sucked. Had every anime stereotype in the book too.
