It was better than I thought it would be. I went to the movie expecting terrible acting and story, so I wasn't disappointed. The action and visuals were much better than I had thought it would be though.

Absolutely retarded IMO. No idea how on EARTH this movie got a higher score than Man of Steel, which fell victim to the same fallacies.

Bad acting, WORST ASIAN ACCENT EVER, effects were good of course, but MY GOD they have so many terrible plot holes.

Why bother punching the things? Just either plasma cannon or slice them up. So many pointless attempts to fake tension by underpowering the suits.

Acting was just stupid. Too much whining about "ohhh, my brother died man" and generally terrible attempts at character development. 3/10 at best.

Oh for crying out loud, you don't go see a movie like this for the acting. Anyone expecting good or even decent acting from a summer action flick like this is an idiot and shouldn't even be allowed to express an opinion on it. It is what it is, a good summer action flick.

Just got back. Not good, not bad. It was a little long. Granted I knew that going in.

I liked that I could actually see what was going on during fight sequences.

I can give credit that the story was better than expected. Talking overall story line here. But leave your brain at the door.

Bill Paxton. Didn't know he was in it. That was awesome seeing him in it!

Err, do you mean Ron Perlman, or am I missing subtle humor?

I went and saw it in 3D this weekend.

Worth $15, imho. Amazing and VERY detailed visuals. It was very fluid, large, and impressive. The 3D worked well too, especially giving a strong feeling of depth in the large scenes. (like in the hangar).

To be fair in the last godzilla movie he was a pussy as all it took to take him out was some missiles from planes.

They said the first one took 6 days and destroyed 10 cities or so to take down using everything we had.

So Cloverfield was the prequel?

I was listening to a discussion on the film, and the idea behind it seems to be to maximize the visual experience and allow a mediocre plot line. The film is being designed to be a world wide cash cow and tradition detailed american movie plot development doesn't carry so well when translated into all the other languages, so lighten up the plot/dialogue and you get many paying butts in seats across the globe.

That makes sense. Kinda like a mechanized kung fu flick without the wire-fu

I might have missed this in the beginning, but did they say how they killed the initial first few kaiju? They didn't have the Jaegers when the first few monsters came in.

Gave me exactly what I was looking for in a good-times summer blockbuster. Excellent effects that are understandable on screen (looking at you, Transformers), fun campy plot and cast, loads of action, no pretentiousness. It's like the Fast and Furious of SciFi.

they said it took all their tanks/troops/planes/missiles and a nuke to take it down was it 5-6 days after it arrived

I thought it was a good movie. i enjoyed it.

there was also a comic about some of the back story. I hope its successful so we see more sci-fi movies that aren't sequels.

I have no idea how I posted in this thread ops.

I liked the movie though the plot holes were bigger than the holes left from their weapons.

fun flick.. coupleof plot holes I saw:

when he grabbed the acid sac from the monsters mouth, why wasn't his hand disintegrated?

when the Russian jaegar got its head based it, why didn't it explode? the Russian jaegar had the peoplein the chest and the nuke reactor in the head.

wtf was with the kung fu between the star and his potential co-pilots? sure, it looked cool but what was the point. if you wanted to see compatible mindmeld, why not just do a mind meld simulator?

wtf first mind meld btween pilot and her in the actual mech?! why not do the mind meld in a simulator first?

when the mech lifted the monster and tossed it, it looked like a guy in a bad monster costume, ala old Godzilla flick

and why didn't they mass produce the mechs?
or at least build 2 per prototype, like they do ships?

mindless fun

enjoyed the pure escape in EXCELLENT 3-D.

Sound is really good too - and almost as important to the story as the visuals.

The "hot chick" isn't. Not even. However, pretty good actress.

Man this one's gonna clean house throughout asia. Bet lots of asians will see it over & over many times.

I bet they double production + advert costs in asia alone, EVEN AFTER piracy. People who harbor legacy ideas of godzilla mothra et al will EAT THIS UP, and pirated play on a small screen just doesn't do it like the HUGE MEGA SCREEN & SUPER SOUND.

If you can't see it under those optimal conditions that this particular film was designed for, then don't waste your time.

On the Emily Hartridge scale:

  1. did I enjoy it? YES (my friends & I were laughing hilariously half the time. ENjoyed for visuals, not for character, cliched story. Man this one's all about the VISUALS!)
  2. would I watch it again? YES (but only if in 3-D with super-sound like before on a gigantic screen. NO if in 2-d in a regular theater. No if aon a computer screen or a tv screen. This particular film would look good on an IMAX screen. It's all about "B I G")
  3. would I buy it? NO
  4. will it become a classic? in US NO, but ABSOLUTELY YES all throughout Japan, S. Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, Brunei, Thailand, Philippines, etc.......

I don't remember the acid sac. EDIT: The sac itself is probably not as corrosive as the acid.

Just because a reactor gets physically damaged doesn't mean it will become an atomic bomb. Anyway, even if the conditions were suitable (if even possible), the scare factor would get toned down because the explosion would take out at least one of the kaiju.

Because kung fu is cool.

Not all drifts are the same. They possibly could've done a successful simulation.

Don't remember that.

Maybe during R&D they were worried that each design would have unforeseeable flaws that would come up only in certain conditions, so they varied the designs to avoid giving every Jaeger the same weakness. You can see this when the EMP goes off. But what the hell, Gypsy Danger is fully analog? Don't give me that shit.

Yeah I saw it this afternoon in IMAX 3D. It was a ton of fun. The visuals were good, 3D was used quite well, and the story wasn't half bad - right in the middle of The Usual Suspects and Dude, Where's My Car?

I'd love to see a sequel, or even a prequel. Maybe just expand out the first 5 minutes of the movie into a full-length feature.
