Package thieves? Retaliation time!

This has been a thing in Detroit and certain surrounding areas for a while (although its been getting better). "No cop no stop" for stop signs and stop lights has been a very real thing for a long time along with 90mph in a 55mph zone. Why? Because there are not enough cops to police violent crime AND traffic for a lot of areas so no need to worry about following certain laws. Many of the nicer areas opted for property tax millages to increase staffing but not all of them

Metro Detroiter here. Thankfully I've never had anyone steal a package from me (I order quite a bit, especially the last few years) though I've always lived in an apartment complex which probably saves me. Sometimes they do leave it outside the outer door, but usually it's inside the hallway and the outer door is locked (or in my mailbox/front office). I'd really be miffed if I had that happen, especially repeatedly. I could see myself doing something like that guy, though I'd consider something besides glitter.

But the not stopping at stop signs or red lights... HAH. Yeah... for sure. I stop and I know the people behind me are just thinking murder probably, lol. Too fuckin bad. Overall people just need to calm the fuck down in vehicles, big time.

What kills me is how many different people were stealing from the same guys' porch.

I think a few of those in the video were friends' houses that were experiencing the same thing.

If they don't have enough people to deal with these crimes then the decision becomes "Do we go after package thieves or hit and run victims\B&Es et?" because, even with the faces, they have to track down the person, take their statement and complete all the paperwork and processing. They will usually go after the more serious crimes which makes sense to me. If the nice area wants better policing they (usually) need to pay for more cops.

Yeah, I know some very large cities do stuff like that (like L.A.).

Without going into a response that would be better suited to be in P&N, I'm just glad I've never lived (or would ever live) in a location where you are basically helpless to criminals. You don't take the law into your own hands, and instead you try to let the law handle it, yet they won't even attempt to help.

Sorry but my bullshit detector is going off. The glitter was in a tray that could be spilled, and none of them tipped the package or just stuck it under their arm, they all kept it upright.

Mine is too. He might not have a prank channel, but something seemed very off. That first one especially seemed like it was probably a "proof of concept" thing where he had a friend pickup the package and take it and he could show the whole process in a near perfect controlled situation. The way the people reacted was also weird to me. Plus, based on my experience with criminals, they'd have kept the package and probably tried to take it back to Wal-Mart or something saying they got a defective one. Which I think the thing that makes me feel its staged is how like all of them put the box back together (almost perfectly) before getting rid of it in a fairly nonchalant manner.

If it was real, I hope he gave the images to police (maybe even show them to the local news). The parking garage one likely wouldn't take too much to be able to easily figure out who that was, as I'm sure they got the license plate recorded somehow, and then pics of the guy. And the one where the woman threw it in the trash would be easily incriminating evidence too.

Really wouldn't matter that much either way as it was a fun video and more him just showing what could be done.

I share some skepticism, but I can see them at least leaving it where it was since they'd probably be pretty aware that they'd been had and that it might have a tracking system in it.

The part that really sucks about this is that cops don't want to do anything about it, so it technically makes it legal to steal packages. But what he's doing is probably illegal because the law system is retarded, even though it is indeed the right thing to do. It's so satisfying seeing their reactions. I would personally have gone with oil based paint mixed with tuna juice or something but glitter is still great.

Theft is super bad where I live, but oddly enough, package theft is not. I'm actually surprised. People here steal the most retarded things, like they'll even go as far as unbolting a seat from a bike and stealing just the seat.

I had a bad feeling as the footage almost did feel staged... Especially because the incidents were all too similar where they shot it out right away.

Come to think of it I think what would really happen is they would go back to the house and vandalize the house etc to retaliate. So now that I think about it, as fun as this would be, it's probably a bad idea all around.

It was too obvious that this video was staged from the get go. Imagine what the thief would do as retaliation for what happened to them when they opened the stolen package.
