Panasonic EDTV Plasma

Panasonic TH-42PWD6UY 42" EDTV 852x480 Plasma TV has fallen as low as $1788 plus shipping. It used to cost $4000+.

All the reviews say this is an incredible TV; as good if not better than many HD TVs as far as "total picture quality goes" (color balance, sharpness, vibrancy etc). Just because a TV is HD, does not mean it will "look better" than a great EDTV.

I was going to get this unit and for anyone that is dead set on plasma then this is the way to go.

Then again... there are the front projectors... I bought an Infocus 4805 for about the same price as this 42" Plasma but my screen is 72"! The picture is fantastic too! Unbelievable actually. This thing is considered the Panny 42" EDTV of the pj world... You can get that at Cosco for $1400. Picture is so bright and the colors are so vibrant, ecen when the room has some light. Image is in 16:9 format. A lot of work to install but nothing compares. I'm shining it on a white wall. There is no angular limitations; I can sit 10 deg off the wall and still see a nice picture...

It is an awesome tv. I love mine. It has been replaced by the TH42PWD7UY Which is only 1874.79 at the same etailer. I paid $2800 a year ago for mine.

If your looking for a plasma I would recommend buying from Visual Apex. They are a well known etailer and will take care of you througout your entire purchase.

what bm stores carry the panasonic so i can judge for my self how good the picture is. also i did a froogle check and this place has it for 1299 but i cant find them on reseller ratings. probably a scam.

As for low life spans, that's all rumor... most plasmas were designed to last at least 10 years. of course, you are subject to "burn in" with plasma, so not highly recommended as a static display...

(some airports use plasmas to display arrival/departure times, but I've never seen one burned in and those images are very static!!!)

Actually the new 7UY series Panny's are rated at 60k hours and it has improved protection from burn-in over the 6UY. 60k hours is 20 years if you use it 8 hours a day 365 days a year, plenty of time!. I just got my 7UY two days ago and it's awesome. I would certainly not buy a plasma from the cheapiest place online, you want to get it from a retailer with a good reputation in case it's DOA or has dead pixels. Spend the extra $100 to get it from Visual Apex or Plasma Concepts (this is where I got mine)
