That throbbing sounds like it might be the early stages of tendinitis. When it gets like that, ice it for 15 minutes. That should really help. Maybe take a couple of extra days off. If it's not bothering you then you can do whatever you like. If it continues to bother you, taking some ibuprofen (especially at night when you sleep) will help reduce inflammation and promote quicker healing.

slight update on my hip area, it's not sore. But it does feel like it's poping if I fully extend my leg to kick even slowly it doesn't hurt but it seems stiff and kind of pops when it's fully extended, maybe. I don't know how to describe it but it feels like my groin on that side is a little swollen like a little knot. Does this still sound like tendinitis? I'll pop a few ibuprofen and see how I feel in the morning.

is it strange that running a few mile would do this and not 60 burpees or squats(bw) or lunges(bw too)... or 60 of each on the same day? Never had issues with heavy weights squatting, 450+lbs at one point.

Sounds more like a strained muscle then. Maybe a little bit of both. The popping sounds unrelated to me or perfectly normal. Ibuprofen and ice are still good. Take it easy when it feels sensitive, but I'd try to keep doing stuff 'cause it might just loosen up.

Ran 1.75 miles again yesterday the time was decent, for me, just over 17 min. my Hams were sore as hell for some odd reason. But the soreness around my groin(?) or whatever that was is gone. It's still a little swollen and tender if I apply pressure but it didn't bother me while running.

5x20 buprees - one more goal down and it was hell... How long should a set of 20 burpees take? I can get 10 down in about a minuet, 20 takes between 2 and 3 minuets. going to rest up and either do more calisthenics or go running a little later too.

2-3 minutes for 20 burpees sounds like you're resting a lot in between. As your conditioning improves, you'll be able to do them faster.

yea, I rest some not more than a few seconds after I jump though. I wasn't sure if ~6 seconds per burpee was ok, I know the 3 min sets are around the end when I'm worn down a lot.

A good workout is to do your burpees (or any exercises) "for time". That is, rather than doing 5 sets of 20 burpees at your leisure, try to do one set of 30, 50 or 100 and time it. Next time you workout, try to beat your previous time. This will ramp up the intensity of the workout quite a bit and lead to faster improvements in your fitness. This kind of thing is done in Crossfit all the time - for example, you can compare your time for 50 burpees with folks who commented in this workout.

I will do this from now on, looks like 3-5 min is the average range for 50 burpees so I guess I'm on the slower end but 3 min is crazy fast imo. probably going to keep my burpees down to no more than 50 until I can get them done a little faster. But I'm not just doing them in my leisure time I'm trying to get them done as fast as possible but I'll speed it up thanks for the input

stupid rain messed up my morning run and my stomach feels weird. Kinda feels like hunger pains but I'm not hungry been there since I got up. At first I thought I was just really hungry which was odd but I ate and it's still there and after lunch it persists. Not sure if I'm getting sick or just slept strange, I know I didn't sleep well last night and the stupid storms kept waking me up

nice quick run tonight, rained earlier so it was nice and cool. The time was decent but my stomach was still bothering me. only did 1.5 miles but it as better than nothing

Oh, did some light lifting too... 3x10x37.5 curls and 3x10x52.5 skull crushers. Just going to do a little on occasion, to get ready for the gym. I'm just counting down the days

Ran 3 miles today, my stomach was still bothering me the first ~1.5miles and shortly after 2 miles I started cramping It's amazing how fast my running endurance goes to shit, a few days off or light running and it seems like I'm starting over, probably more in my head than anything but it's kinda discouraging tho.

First bout of MMA training tonight a little over 30 min and it was awesome! mostly getting the basics down, but did a little sparring session with a friend that's been in it for a while just for fun.

It's funny, I can do this and not get tired or gas at all but 30 min of just running and I'm beat.

Oh, losing weight blows... I've lost 3 inches off my waist as of last weekend and only lost about 7lbs according to my scale I really don't think my 220 goal is reachable anymore. At this point I'm done with the scale.

Glad you're trying new stuff out. Sometimes doing other stuff like MMA distracts you a bit more. Running gets a bit boring after a while and all you can focus on is your breath and how crappy you feel.

Also, 3 inches off your waste is definitely NOTHING to complain about I would venture to guess that you're also gaining a bit of muscle during these beginning stages. The scale means nothing though. How you feel and how you look makes all the difference.

I've been wanting to get into MMA for a while, have a friend that trained with Militage for about a year in Houston that finally convinced me to give it a try. Yea, getting hit is a good distraction lol. I have to agree with ya on running getting boring, I'm gonna get a bike and use it for cardio I think.

I was kinda thinking the same thing with the gaining muscle mass, but really at this point I need to be lighter! I really think the gym will help drop the fat, my last reintroduction into the gym lead me to lose 30lbs in 2 months. As long as I keep my diet decent and I stay in the gym I can get down to 220 easy, by the end of the year I would like to be 215. But I don't want to get too ahead of myself.

Oh and I have a question for you guys... whats your opinion of isometric exercises? I kinda laughed when someone suggested it, I know it's used for rehab and stuff but is it a decent alternative or addition or lifting?

really good 2 miles tonight, 18 min even. I haven't looked back at my other times but I think that's the fastest 2 miles thus far My leg was a little sore from Saturday, got kicked in the same spot at least 20 times. But no cramping, very little walking, felt solid. I think I've been pushing my running too hard, today seemed a lot easier than when I'm running every other day. I may change it up and run every 3 or 4 days just to give my legs ample time to rest.

Oh and officially I lost 2.5 inches off my waist, although my scale today said I was at 239 up from 233 a few days ago... I don't know if my weight fluctuates a lot or if it's a broke scale or both but... it doesn't really matter, I'm thinner and thats all that matters for now.

edit: Got on a calibrated scale today and I'm actually down to 230 this makes me feel much better about all the work I've put in.

About 2 hours of MMA tonight. I love this stuff, it's so much more fun than running and I'm getting a much better workout This mixed with the gym in about 2 weeks is going to be awesome for cutting weight.

Isometrics are alright, but less than optimal. Technically, the most optimal movement for strength gain is the eccentric part of a movement (rather than the concentric part of a movement). Imagine letting yourself down slowly from a pullup. That is a heavily eccentric movement. The downside to eccentric movements though is that they result in high DOMS. That hinders recovery a bit. Also, they don't really transition to real life... BUT if you were looking to add something new to your workout regime, eccentric exercises would be more beneficial than isometric IMHO (and I feel research says the same).

another quick 2 miles tonight, 17:30 the first 1/2 mile was hell, caught a kick to the back of my knee last night and it was a little tender for a while. Other than that not too much more to report, keep getting faster and seems easier.

2 more miles today, forgot to time it like an idiot but it felt decent. I know the first mile was under 8 min tho definitely seeing improvement in my composition, I'll throw up pics before my first gym day, and update a month later just for reference.

Oh I also have a new found love for cottage cheese and raw spinach with a little Italian dressing less than 400 calories and I'm stuffed. This has helped a lot so anyone having issues dropping the weight take note, although I'm sure it's in the fat loss sticky.

ran another 1.5 miles today the first mile was 8:06! I should have gone for at least 2 if not 3 miles today but I think I'm a little dehydrated and it's a little warm out there.

Haven't been doing MMA much lately because the guy I normally train with broke this thumb on my elbow on the last outing. Hopefully that will start up again next week.

school sucks, it's really going to put a damper on my workouts Going to give it about a week of doing what I can when I can, and if I have time going to sign up for the gym. If not, should I just do calisthenics for 20-30 min if thats all I have time for? would running for a short distance be better? with the drive, I might beable to get a mile done on a good day.
