Ok this is my problem. I go into fdisk, I delete all partitions, I create a primary partition and then when it asks me if I want to use all the disks space, I type N. Then it starts verifying and it brings up this exact text:

"Total disk space is 19603 Mbytes (1Mbyte 1048576 bytes)
Maximum space available for partition is 2047 Mbytes (10%)

Thats my problem right there. It only gives me 2 gigs max to partition my drive. I wanted like 5 gigs. Can any of you help me diagnose this problem?

hmm..on WIN 98? Odd. I havent used Fdisk in sooo long. Wish I could help. Check to see what it reads your HD as in the Bios.. maybe a problem recognizing its size

Maybe has something to do with FAT16 or something.. try installing an OS then doing fdisk.. will that work?

when you state that you deleted all the partitions, does using option 4 to view your partitions tell you that there are no partitions present?
when asked how big you want to make the primary partition, you can either type in a Mb value or a percentage. I favour using the percentage value!
hope that helps!

when you fdisk'd, it'll ask you if you want to enable large disk support. press 'Y'.

Are you using the latest BIOS?

Also, maybe someone can snag you a Partition Magic and see if that works.

You must press "y" to enable FAT32 large partition, FAT16 only supports 2GB partition at most.

Ok it asks if you want to enable large disk support, so I will type Y. Then what about when it asks me if I want to use all the disks space available. How am I supposed to partition from there? I'm thinking its stuck in Fat16 mode somehow. How do I unstuck it?

When it asks to enable large disk support press Y. To make a partition you must create a Primary partition of your choice in size. To have other partitions create an extended partition, then create logical drive(s) within that partition.

Remember to say no when it asks if you should use all your space for a Primary partition if you plan to create more than one partition. Good luck.
