Password protecting folders

I am running Windows ME and was wondering if anyone knows if I can password protect specific folders. If not from within WinME itself, is there perhaps a program out there which allows you to do this? Any info would be appreciated. By the way, I upgraded from Win98 SE and have been very pleased with WinME. It seems to be quicker with apps, and is better at managing system resources. If anyone is thinking of upgrading do a clean install as I did have several minor problems when I installed over Win 98.

Thanks

well i have a tip maybe you can use it dont use a password but you can hide it and no one will know..first right click on the folder and go to properties and check hidden, then click on view in your tool bar and make sure that no system or hidden files can be seen and its gone..when you want to get into that folder you need to go back and click show all files to get in ..its kinda a pain in the ass but it works for me my girlfriend hasnt found my goodie folder yet

You might look for PGP (Pretty Good Privacy). One of the many things it can do is to encrypt folders and files so that, when anyone else tries to open them, they have to supply the proper password or they won't get access. Or, if you use an archiver like WinZip, you can archive folders and files so that they can't be unarchived without entering a password. There may also be some program made specifically for doing what you want. You might try searching at Tucows.

If you're talking about limiting access to functional system folders on a standalone system, to prevent people from mucking about in your Windows directory for instance, you're out of luck in any of the DOS-based Windows versions. (If your system logs onto an NT domain, however, prudent use of policies by the network admin could help you out.) NT or W2K can do this on standalone systems by forcing different people to log on using different user profiles. The Administrator (you) sets the system up so that some people have access to certain folders / files and other people do not.
