Pathetic 3Dmark2001SE scores

I can only get about 4023 using the spec below (see sig.) when running with standard settings (1024*768 32-bit colour), I am using the latest Detenators with v-sync off and no AA.

I could get a score that was quite similar (3000+) with my Geforce 2mx, is the GeforceFX 5200 really this bad!

Probably. Seeing as how it's not even a FX5200 Ultra... and the Ultra even sucks the big one.

its close, try your card on 3Dmark03 because i got 200 marks with a Geforce4 MX420 with a 2.4 Ghz P4

Yeah, I don't think there is anything wrong with your card. Scores like that are typical for the FX 5200.

I wouldn't really worry about the score, what matters is how the card performs for what you do. I had a GF4 MX 440 (came with my system) and it was fine. I had some slowdowns but that was it. I didn't realize how poor it was until I switched it out and THEN I saw what I was missing. More details, more effects.

Don't worry about your score. Its good to benchmark to see what the difference is between changes in hardware though.

The fx5200 is pretty bad, though I think you should still be getting a little higher of a score. Is your card one with the 64bit memory bus?

Its a 128 bit one and its a gainward which are supposed to be good quality. What card would be a good replacement, I would have about £150-200 to spend on a new one.

Thats odd .. i didnt know the 5200 was that bad... I have almost an identical system to yours (cept 2500+ instead of 2400+) but using a 9600 Pro ($160) and i get upwards of 14K+ in 3dMark2001 w/default (1024x768x32) settings.

Keep in mind... this FX5200 is an ULTRA.

The FX series just seem to be totally underpowered compared to ATI solutions for the mid-to-low end. I think I may wait until some more dx9 games come out before getting a new card, none of the nvidia cards seem to be doing very good at the moment and ATI seem to be churning out cards like no tommorow. Additionally I have had lock-up problems with multiple radeon 9000 cards and that has put me off ATI a bit to be honest. :S
