i guess his autopsy photo is circulating around, looks like his face was split open on the b frame or a frame whatever its called. typical injury when not wearing a seatbelt

I'm not going to hunt down the picture, but if there is body damage as you indicate it wouldn't in my view prove he wasn't wearing his seat belt. Race drivers wear there seat belt -- ALWAYS. In addition, the damage to the car was massive and the car hit things that pushed deeply into the passenger compartment. It's as likely that whatever hit him to cause the damage to his face hit him where he was belted in.

Lastly, why SPECULATE on if he was wearing his seat belts? This is a fact that will come out so no speculation needed...

Speed and speed alone' behind deadly Paul Walker crash, source tells AP

"Investigators have found no evidence that the Porsche carrying actor Paul Walker had mechanical problems before it crashed, killing the "Fast & Furious" star.

The investigation also has ruled out debris or other roadway conditions as causing the car in which Walker was a passenger to slam into a light pole and tree.

The car, a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT, is notoriously hard to handle.

"We're looking at speed and speed alone," a law enforcement official with knowledge of the investigation told The Associated Press. The official was not authorized to speak publicly about the ongoing investigation and spoke on condition of anonymity. "

Third gear pull gets you 113 in a stock CGT. In my old age I have mellowed quite a bit and dont hoon as much as I used to but tell me you havent done a pull to 100 a few times?

I had a shop near a industrial area that was often used by people to drag race and even had some curves where alot of guys would go drift. I mentioned earlier that CGTs snap oversteer more abruptly than alot of cars and losing traction in second gear can get some cars sideways NOW

My 300ZX has about the same power as a stock CGT with its baseline tune and loses traction in shifts on the hwy. I havent delved deep into the conspiracy theories but has there been any mention of where the skid marks start and was it at the start of the corner or midcorner or was the car going in a straight line? If he was trying to drift a CGT in a residential area then they were just being stupid...

I'm having a hard time equating a 300ZX to a carerra GT.

The article says that the data recorders survived, but they need Porsche engineers to come over and extract the info.

Yes, my posts of a couple weeks ago made mention of the fact that they, the police, would likely get data from the cars computers to nail down the speed. If they are able to get speed data they are also likely to get gps data so they can plot the course of the car in the moments before the crash. I suspect there may also be some accelerometers and if so they might provide insight into the precise event that lead to the loss of control and crash.

I also suspect they've located additional video footage that, alone, could nail down the speed.

If this were a nobody that became famous due to crashing a half million dollar car I suspect we'd have heard more from the police, but because Walker was a celeb I think they are playing this close to the vest...

I wouldn't have too much faith in a statement from a public official that won't be publically known.

Sorry didnt mean to derail. My twin turbo Z has tons of upgrades including now turbos, tune, and is too fast to really jump on now that it makes north of 600 at the wheel on pump gas. It like a CGT requires much respect or things get out of control faster than most people can deal with.

I read the article posted earlier in the thread and it appears from the skid marks that they made it trough the turn fine and got out of control going in a straight line and at least one of the tires was from 2004. From my armchair quarterback position it looks like they made it trought the turn in probably second gear exited turn applied power and lost it. I can see the rear end of that car getting out of hand really badly on old greasy tires right after shifting into third....Now imagine one greasy tire biting alot less and the rear of the car goes over there RIGHT NOW

my 600 horse 74 stingray doesnt even try to grab in a straight line anymore. The tires just squeel and the car squirms and the car is sideways.

Were just waiting for the data contained in the car's black boxes to be extracted and analyzed. Mark my words, it will only confirm that speed was the ONLY factor.

Hitting the trees also had a small part in it.

I don't know how there could have been any proof in that mess...

Reminds me of an accident I was in (not driving) when I was 19. We slammed into a huge oak tree. The police determined that we were not speeding by measuring the length of the skid marks. Seemed to me that the tree stopping the car would have made them shorter...

We were doing about 60 in a 35 zone, and the engine was partially in the front seat. Geniuses.

Even with slicks on your stingray?

They are aware of the effect of the impact on the calculation of speed from skid marks.

They would also estimate from the amount of damage.

They can only prove what they can prove, if you will.

Weight distribution is quite different though.

There are other cars out there that are as tricky to drive as the CGT, when you're near its limits, due to a lack of system nannies; the Noble M600, Ferrari Enzo, and McLaren F1, but there are more CGTs on the road than all those combined, and most owners wouldn't even consider hooning the last 2, given their rarity and values. Frankly I'm surprised that we don't read about more F40 wrecks on public roads, on-boost those are nuts and for a while 2-3 were being totaled every year, but I'm guessing the ones that are left are being mothballed now too, given their recent jump in value.
