PC Troubleshooting

Hello, I recently built a computer, but it seems it won't start up with my graphics card in. When the graphics card us put in it's slot, the computer would make some noises (no fans starting) and then suddenly stop 3-5 seconds later.

With the graphics card out however, the computer seems to start up perfectly fine. I also noticed that with the graphics card in, the second the computer shut down, if I touched the power connector it would be hot.

Can someone please help me? Is this a problem with my PSU, Motherboard, GPU?

CPU: Q6600
GPU: EVGA 8800 GT
Motherboard: Gigabyte p35 DS3l
PSU: PC Power and Cooling 610 Watt
RAM: Corsair 4gb (2x2gb) DDR2 800 MHZ RAM

IS it under warranty?

I would guess the GPU defective & drawing to much power?

Does it have an "extra" connector on the card itself for power?

borrow a graphics card from a friend or take yours to their house and try it. Then you'll know where to begin troubleshooting.

Like Mide asked, Do you have the 6 Pin PCI-E power connection run to your Video Card?

If so I would suspect that it's maybe a bad PSU. Do you have anyway to test the PSU perhaps in another system. You say the power connection is hot? What is it connected to? Sounds fishy to me...

You going to have to switch out parts 1 @ a time to figure which part is actually fucked up. It's likely either the GPU, PCI-EX slot or your PSU. TBH, it sounds like the GPU is messed up. Borrow a friend's to put in the same slot & see what happens.

Heh. Well, I solved the problem...
Me being the stupid person I am, I didn't read the manual all the way, and so didn't notice the power spliter that came with the card. It split the 8800 GT's power supply into two molex plugs.


Problem solved! YAY!
