PC Turns Off.....

PC just turns off, no warning. That's the only evidence there is. It's happened about 5 times within the last 1-2 weeks. Most times when I'm not home, but 1 time I was near the pc and heard all the fans spinning down. Looked, and it was off. I've checked event log viewer, checked for a dump file, and monitored temps and volts with asus probe, all of which hold a consitant and clean rate. I have the monitor, pc, router, and dsl modem all connected to a CyberPower 1200V UPS, so at first I was thinking the UPS was going out. However, I've checked the uptime of my router, and it hasn't reset, so I don't think it's the UPS. Next guess would be Power Supply, but the volts stay steady (all within 0-3%). Temps at time of power down (cpu = 39C, chipset = 35C). I haven't added any new hardware in the system since I got the X1900XTX a few months back, so nothing has changed. The only thing added near my pc is another pc, but it's not even running at the time of power down, so it shouldn't be an overload on the electrical outlet (which was a thought at first, but then the UPS should save it in this case). Any suggestions on things to check that could just cause it to shutdown like this? Thanks

Suggestion.

Try booting it to a bootable WIN98 floppy diskette and just let it run for a long period. If it shuts down like you have described, it is a hardware problem. If it does NOT shut down like you have described, it is a software-O/S problem.

Good luck.

Probably too obvious to mention, but is it possible someone changed your power settings to turn off after so many minutes?

Negative, no one else has access to this PC. I have another one for everyone else's use I checked the settings to make sure though. So far, for about 3 days now it hasn't done it again. I unplugged my 2 burners, and a webcam, to test power issues. Left it running for 2 days without any problems. Reconnected the 2 drives back, and left the webcam unplugged, and it's been running for almost a day now without any problems. So hopefully that 500 mA device is what was causing it. It's kind of odd I've had all that same devices in that system for months, and then all of a sudden these issues start.

May seem silly, but you may want to check your power cable to make sure it's not damaged (exposed wires or anything).

Also, make sure nothing has come loose inside like a screw or something that could be shorting the board.

I may have found the problem. Turns out it wasn't the unplugged hardware. I was on the PC this morning, and all of a sudden it turned off again. So I tried turning it back on, and it just turned back off. Same thing everytime. So I opened up the case, and started pulling hardware, starting with the power cables, then the RAM, and got to the CPU. Reseated the CPU, and now the system booted. So I'm wondering if the CPU was losing connection in the socket, and just turning the system off. Hopefully so, and I can move on with my life

Update:

Found the problem. Even after all the monitoring of clean volts, turns out the Power Supply is the culprit. It finally had it's last burst of energy and gave out on me last night. Tested it on another system, and it does the same thing. Already have an RMA for it, and hopefully it won't take too long (unfortunately, no cross shipping available). Good thing I had a spare 420W laying around and was able to get my system back online
