Hey folks,
I have an ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe with an Antec neopower 500 watt ps,amd3500+cpu and 2Gb Ram and 2 nvidia cards in sli with a soundblaster sound card.
All was great when I left for a family emergency on Wednsday evening. My daughter unplugged the power bar and monitor when we left and when we returned today,I plugged it back in and nothing would happen.
I checked the power bar and it seemed ok.I unplugged the PC power supply and made sure it was getting power.Removed thge cover and the green light on the MoBo was lit as usual.
I reseated all the video cards and the sound cards, cleared the cmos by removing the battery, switching the jumper for a minute and sticking it back in to no avail.
The board wont do anything at all.....The fans, hard drive or anything happens when I hit the power switch on the case panel. Also the case is an Antec and I tried switching the power switch leads to the reset switch and that wouldnt work either.Im on my laptop now looking for a solution.
ANY HELP WILL BE APRECIATED PEOPLE AND A thanx in advance..

Hmmm...

Might try shorting the pwr pins (on/off) on the mobo to make sure it's not pwr button on the case (may not be worth it, I just read again and saw you swapped the pwr button with the reset button/switch).

What kind of internet conection do you have, was it plugged in while you were gone? Is it a removeable PCI card? If so take it out & try again. (in Case there was a storm with a lightening strike, etc)

You're sure your power strip is good? I might just try the PC without the power strip and at another known good working electrical outlet. (lightening again)

Got a spare PSU you can try? (or can you get hold of a PSU tester, IIRC they cost about $12).

Any other spare parts (e.g., ram) you can swap?

Might try leaving the CMOS in cleared position overnight. I've had some be very difficult to clear. I left the battery out overnight too

Might also try (while mobo still in case) unplugging all drives & addd-in cards. Leave in cpu + HS&F, ram, at least one gfx card and PSU.

I suppose lastly I'd pull the mobo outta the case, lay it on a phonebook leaving in the basre necessities I described above.

Good Luck with it,

Fern

I disassembled the pc and hooked it up on my workbench in the garage.
I installed the video card, ram and power supply,The green power LED lit up but when I tried jumping the power switch nothing happened.Still no luck. However, when I jumped the green wire lead on the 24 pin connector with a black pinned wire, the fan on the power supply came on.
Ive come to the conclusion that somehow the mobo fried something somewhere that I cant see.I had a stock cooler that came with the retail chip and took the thermaltake venus coler off the chip and installed the stock cooler just in case the chip cooler was screwed, but that didnt work either.
BTW I have DSL through a dsl modem.I had my daughter unplug the modem before we left but she just unplugged the power cord, not the phone line. There were no storms over the past two days so I dont see how that could have caused it.
I do appreciate your replies and thanks for the help.
I think Ill find a new asus a8n32 sli to replace this one.I dont want to go dual core till later in the year as there seems to be big changes coming.Just trying to bleed a few more months out of this system without big expences.Riding season is coming up anyways.

Welcome to the Forums One more thing: when clearing the CMOS, not only do you want to remove the CMOS battery, but unplug the PSU from the wall too. Any good?

Yeah Ive tried swapping any number of combos with the same result.
One thing I did notice by mistake more or less after I had given up was this.
I had an old Asus P4P800 SE sitting there from an old build.Still has the intel chip and cooler,so I plugged it into the 20 pin adapter and hooked up the Antec Neopower 480 to the P4P board
I then jumped the power switch on the P4P with a pair of needlenose pliers. The north chip fan fired up and also the fan on the power supply ON THE A8n SLI board.I had unintentionally left the 4 pin power connector and the atx connector on the broken board.

Now Im at a complete loss as the whereabouts of my problem.Could the power supply be the whole problem after all.Perhaps a shorted pin?
Anyways,Ive ordered an Asus A8N32 sli from newegg.com.I was going to upgrade to an intel dual core but didnt want to foot the bill for a complete system right now.
Thanks folks and Im still trying to figure this deal out.

Found this topic using the search feature. I recently had the same issue with my Asus A8N32SLI - just came home to find it dead- very similar setup to your own. If you browse the asus forums its a fairly common issue. Anyway sending it in to them for RMA.

Quick check for a bad power supply: Take the mobo connector and use a paper clip to connect the green pin to any black (ground) pin. The PSU should spin up.

If it does not = bad for sure.
If it does = still could be bad (low voltage or something).

Don't run the PSU like this for more than the second or two it takes to check. It's bad on some PSUs to run them without a load.
