PC3200 or PC2700

should I get more PC2700 ram or something faster? (PC3200 only a few bucks more)

I know its not going to help me really with the current system, but when I do an upgrade in the future.

who know how long my upgrade will be though.

how much in the future are you talking about? With DDR-II coming out, you might not want to spend on the faster speeds. On the other hand, if you are going to upgrade fairly soon (before end of the year), you might want to get the PC3200!

If you already have 2700 stick w/ that... Wont the 2700 step the 3200 down to 2700 speeds?

yes you are right, my board doesn't support faster than PC2700.

I was thinking that it might help me for a future upgrades

One benefit of getting DDR3200 is that it might allow tighter timmings at DDR2700 speeds like Cas 2.0 2 2 5, and if you upgrade to a 200fsb CPU in the future you already have the ram. I do not think that the FSB of CPU will go above 200 for the near future, so DDR3200 should be valid for a little while longer.

will a notice a big difference between 768 of ram to 1 gig?

going to get a tv tuner card

I could use the $40 I save on going with 768 towards getting me a dvd burner.

Unless you are editing large Media Files (DVD's) or playing a few of the latest complex games (BF1942, IL2) you will not see any difference between 512, 768 or 1 gig of ram. Yes, more ram is always good, but there is a point of diminishing returns when you go above an certian amount. So a DVD player will be a good compromise for the added ram.

you could even just get a stick of 512mb, get your burner and still have a nice minor upgrade option. There isnt much that >512mb will be noticed in, and unless your video editing or something you definately at least can make do without it. Sacrficing the burner for 1gig maybe gives you some lower map load times and... er... most likely thats about it.
