Finalizing the system component list for my new build and could use some feedback on whether it's worthwhile to spend the extra money for pc8500 memory in this setup. Any other feedback appreciated also.
Expect to do moderate air-cooled overclocking on this system. Proposed configuration:
Asus Striker 680i
E6300
Silverstone TJ09
Seasonic M12 600 or 700 watt
Tuniq Tower 120
2x raptor 74gb root in raid 0, data drive tbd
8800gtx or 8800gts video
Was considering the Corsair Dominator XMS2 either pc6400 or pc8500. Do you see any value here in having the faster memory? If I were to upgrade the CPU in the next 12 months would that influence the memory decision?
Couple availability comments:
- The best price I've found so far for the 2GB XMS2 pc8500 is $362 at Tigerdirect.
- Striker seems to be out of stock most places. Best deal I've found seems to be Chumbo.com at $319 claiming availibility at the end of this week.
