I'm wanting to move out of Texas and go somewhere with a little cooler, darker climate. I've visited Pennsylvania with a couple of friends before, as well as many other states, and it is the one state that catches my attention the most. I have been out of high school since a week after my sixteenth birthday (early graduation) and I turned eighteen in late August. I feel that it is about time for me to start school, and that's what I'm out to do. I have been looking at the Pennsylvania Institute of Technology- it has two courses that interest me for an AAS degree, and it is one of the only colleges in the state that offer actual degrees in the computer field rather than simple certificates and certifications. (Excluding Computer Science, Software Engineering, etc.) and is, in fact, one of the only two schools in the state (that I have found- correct me if I am wrong) that offer Computer and Communications Engineering as a major. I was also looking at mechanical engineering. I also like the fact that it is in a small town (5k+ people) but close to a large one (Philadelphia) so that I don't have to deal with long lines and traffic, but I can still visit the city when I want to. It is a two year college, and I am going to try to take out an Education-One loan tomorrow for the first year. I plan to apply for scholarships througout my first year to help me with the second year, and take out a second loan if neccesary at the end of my first year. If anybody has any advice on that school, or has heard any information about it- please post. If you have any recommendations abou financing and student loans, I'm sure it would be more than helpful to me. I'm lost to all of these financial terms, but I don't have much money so a Deferral Principal loan is probably the best for student loan option for me from what I gather. Thanks in advance and please reply.

There is nothing here but mountains, bars, and half a million rednecks.

Unless you go to the keystone, then theres beaches, bars, and half a million rednecks.

Pennsylvania (ive moved within the state 3 times) is a very boring place. (used to live in chicago, man do i regret the move).

No, lol. www.PIT.edu. I don't care much about bars, I'm eighteen and have a while before I can (legally ) drink. Rednecks are scary. I'm surrounded by them here. I moved from Midland, to Longview, then to Hawkins, Texas. Populations from 100k+ to 1k a couple years ago. The redneck population here is 800+. I love mountains, and hate beaches. Sun bothers me. I'm pale. Water doesn't interest me anymore, as I've spent too much time in it. (I used to be on the City of Midland Swim & Dive team)

Looks like a community college meets ITT Tech type of thing, named to sound like CalTech and MIT.

I want to go to a private school. Sick of public BS and everything being influenced so heavily by people who aren't even involved.

What do you mean? If I could, I will go to a larger school just so to have more buddies around the campus, but that's just me.

I've always been the kind of person who has... been outcasted by most people as a "freak" So, I try to stay out of situations where stereotyping can once again make people afraid of me. I have a past that bothers a lot of people, including myself, and I don't want to be around a lot of people who can just make the situation more stressful. Hopefully, this new out-of-state start will keep that from happening (because they're not going to find out from me) and present a small, but well rounded, social situation to me. I have three friends here, one of them was :'( (her parents destroyed our relationship when she moved in with me by making it so hard on us) my girlfriend. I'm happy having only three people to hang out with, but I want a change. One of the biggest reasons of me leaving is to get away from her and her parents and the reputation that I have here, that was only made worse by them. ::steaming pissed now:: Sorry to vent...

PTI (not PIT) What about that? What good technical schools are there, period, that are in the NE states and that offer AAS or BS degrees in Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Network Engineering, or Computer Forensics?

Looks like you are only interested in the XXX technology of institution....if that's the case, then I can't help much.

Otherwise, I like Seattle University and the private school I am currently attending to in los angeles.

I think you should probably shoot for higher school. Even if you completely screw up in high school, you can always make it up at 2 years community college, just a thought.

I didn't screw up in high school. (Ok, ok. Legal records that are now expunged don't count) It has nothing to do with that. I have a 3.85 GPA on a 4PT scale. It's more the psychological aspects I've dealt with since I was an infant that bother me. I would rather go to a technical school that offers an AAS than anything else. I'm open to suggestions, though, and other states are okay. Change is good.

Ok, if you don't insist on going to a technical school...then I have a good few suggestions. Specifically, I am thinking about the Jesuit schools.... I've attended two of them..and I am impressed with their small community feel. Maybe that's what you are looking for.

I've been accepted to the Berks Technical Institute in Wyomissing, PA. (Just outside of Reading) They have an Internet/Network Engineer AST program that I am registered for. This is a rather competitive school with about 700 people attending, which is perfect since I don't like large schools but want a good education.

How about my alma mater, Carnegie Mellon, in Pittsburgh?

Not that the social life is that much better there...

Hopefully PIT/PTI spends a bit of time on the fine art of paragraphs.

First time I've heard of Pennsylvania Institute of Technology. While you're at it, look into Pennsylvania College of Technology (pct.edu). They are apart of Penn State now, and offer even more diverse degrees.

Cornell, Penn State, CMU, RIT are all pretty good engineering schools that offer CE and ME BS degrees in and around that area.
