Somebody needs to bulldoze the entire place & start over. It has got to be the most poorly laid out city in the US.

About an hour north of Pittsburgh here.

I like how this state is old. I like how the cities and house are old. Everything's old. That's what I don't like about a lot of FL, CA, things are too new. That's about all I can say for this state, though. Otherwise not all that exciting! And the weather sucks!

So we have 46 states, and 4 commonwealths? All it means is that it's a republican state.
Actually he's right. The body of PA is considered a commonwealth and not a state.

I love how no one cares about Harrisburg. Sure it's PA's capital, but no one cares about it. Oh well...

because there's really nothing in harrisburg? it jobs in that area are slim to none unless you have 15 years experience

Hey buddy, I live here. I would know, but you're just being anal if you argue about it.

I live here, too. I'm not arguing, I would call it a state, too. Just mentioning that it IS technically a commonwealth.

<--- Grew up in Uniontown and moved around after HS. Lived in Dominican Republic, California and Florida. Moved back to Pittsburgh and then immediately took a contract gig in NY/NJ. Back to the Burgh after 9/11. Now, as luck would have it, I have the great misfortune of having moved to Mississippi for work.

Anyone that criticizes where they live should go out the door right this very second, pick up a handful of dirt and start kissing it like it were Jessica Beil or Brad Pitt and thank the lord that it isn't coming from within the borders of this place called hell.

As you can tell, I miss Pittsburgh desperately and want/need to get out of the "deep" south ASAP!!

I currently live in erie and am unemployed.

The economy here is in shambles, the ONLY company here that pays a decent wage that isnt doctor/lawyer/construction/insurance is GE, who requires 7 years of factory experience to even accept an application for IT.

The city has mismanaged itself to near bankruptcy, they cant even pay the police, they have had to lay off nearly half of our police force. The great city of erie has for 20 years taken an enormous slab of their budget to push "tourism" instead of actually creating jobs. The situation only got worse over time as huge companies like International Paper and Kaiser Aluminum jumped ship, leaving tons unemployed with NOTHING in the region to fill the void.

Now the morons seem to think that building a casino and horserace track is the path to an income again... Regardless, i have decided to go to school out of state and never return to this horrible place.

I lived in Erie for about 6 months when my brother and I moved over here from OR. What kind of "tourism" can there possibly be? I think going to the city school was the worst experience of my childhood.

Where are you going to school at?

I went to school in PA (near Doylestown), worked in Doylestown for a year after college and worked in Kutztown for a year after that.

Their "tourism" is essentially nothing more than presque isle, which draws in no income whatsoever.

They are also building, get this, a big business convention center (50mil) when we already have the Erie Civic Center (seats approx 24000 and is ready to fold from under-use).

They invested millions into getting a sister city in germany, only later to find out the airport that they were supposed to operate out of in the sister city was bankrupt.

Im currently attending Edinboro University and hoping if i hold my 4.0 this spring and fall i can transfer out to RIT in Rochester NY and never look back.
