I have just purchased the Asus P4b266-c board from New egg. I bought the barebone refurbished board as that was all they had in stock. This will only be the second system I have built and actually it is only an upgrade of my current system. I will be using my current 300W power supply with the Asus board and a 1.6A gig Northwood. I understand the power cord for the P4's is different from the Pentium 2 (which I have now). My question is where can a get one of these power cords and how do I know exactly what to look for? Also will in need any other cables that I would not have from my present machine? I'm not changing the cdrom or hard-drive, just the cpu, motherboard, memory and video card. Please be very specific as I'm not that knowledgable. Thanks in advance for your help.

Well....since you bought the ASUS board, you dont need that power cord.

you will notice that Asus also has an extra power connecter on the motherboard. You can just use the power outlet that goes in your hard drive/cd-rom for that instead of that special 12v connector. just make sure that 2 power cables are connected to your motherboard.......one is the big connector and other one for you will be the normal connector (since you got the Asus board)

you dont need any other special cables for your upgrade.

Good luck though.

As long as you don't have any problems with the system then it should be ok. One thing is that you should use just use a dedicated cable on the EZ plug. That means that there should be no other devices (eg HD CDROM on that cable)
Just my 2 Cents

Although, the precise puprose of the EZ-Plug is not to have to buy a new power supply, I would recommend buying one anyway. You should look for a P4 approved 300W+ power supply that has a square 4-pin 12v connector. This plug will go right near the processor. I recommend plugging in both the EZ-Plug and the Square 12-pin connector. Do not listen to others when the say that plugging in all 4 will fry the board. This is not true, and has been confirmed by ASUS technical support and personal experience from many people on this board.
