Pentium D 820 - 64bit?

I've recently picked up a nice (and cheap!) new rig with a Pentium D 820 2.8GHz processor and I'll be getting things configured tomorrow. This is my first experience with a Pentium D processor and I have a couple questions:

1) Is the D 820 64bit?

2) If so, do I need to install 64-bit XP? Is it a bad idea to go with XP Home on this machine? (The rig will be used for games and general stuff on a home LAN with 2 other machines)

1 Yes.

2. XP home will be fine.

XP64 will also work, but I believe driver support is a bit shaky yet.

I'm not positive, but I think you need XP SP2 , or XP-64 bit

i thought to run xp64 you needed XP Pro, not home on the machine

I think I'm going to go with Pro just in case. It was out of pure laziness to stick with Home (came installed from Dell), anyway.

Well, you don't need XP64 on the system at all.

It's only trial software anyway, isn't it?

1. It has EMT64 instructions, yes
2. It's not necessary, but you can. And no, XP x64 Pro went retail a bit ago, so it's not trial software.

Well, XP64 is only OEM, though. The download is trial software.

You can get the OEM version if you buy something else, or you can buy a system with XP64 on it already.

I question whether it makes sense to buy XP Pro, so you can buy XP64, when the system already has XP Home on it.

Of course if you can use an XP Pro disc you already have.....

I have installed XP pro 64 bit on my system. Some drivers for XP pro 64bit are still not available i.e. webcam, multimedia controller etc... XP pro only good for browsing internet with 64 bit explorer (some plugins like flash player not available), It is very fast. I have downloaded and installed some 32 bit games on XP pro 64 like halo 2, Dongion seage 2 but when I begin to play the computer shutdowns after few minutes. XP pro 64 bit will take time to be in main stream operating systems because 64 bit applications are not available yet.

I had xp pro 32bit pro on my PC than I installed xp pro 64 bit on other partition on the same harddrive. Everytime on startup, a menu give me the selection to choose between two Operating systems.
