Just out of curiosity, why did you get a Pentium D 820, why not an x2 3800+? And what did you upgrade from?

Perhaps you used to much AS5? Did you use a very thin layer? Have you run throttlewatch yet? If those temps are actualy acurate you will be throttling, so running throttlewatch can at least help verify if those temps are acurate.

I'm actually having a similar problem.
Using a stock cooler, I have a Pentium D 830 on an Asus P5LD2 that's idling at 57 degrees celcius and running at load at 68-69 degrees. Haven't checked if it was thottling, maybe it is. At first I thought the thermal paste didn't do well because I kinda damaged it while installing the HSF, but when I used an old tube of AS3 I had lying around, I didn't get any difference. Still ran at the same temps.
Does a side vent help? The one that the new prescott cases have? The case I have is a Silverstone TJ-04 which has no such side ventilation.
Anyways, now thinking of replacing stock HSF. Any suggestions other than the jungle 512? I was thinking the Zalman CNPS-7700-Cu, what you guys think?
And before anyone asks why Intel, coz it was the cheaper option at the time. No way could I afford the AMD X2s back then.

Ofcourse all of you P-D boys need to get over and run the AutoGK test...You biys are either the only SOBs that bought the thing or nobody wants to report their scores....In that thread I have Dothans, X2s oc'd and not, single core A64's, and P4 w/ HT oc'd heavilly...I need to see where you fit in especially since you lack the HT...
If you dont have the movie suggest another one and I will see if I have it....We got to get some numbers from the phantom P-D users....PPL swear theyare selling them though that same thread at 3 major hardware sites and not 1 P-D user in 2-3 weeks...That is pretty sad...

Hi All,
Pentium D 820 2.8 GHZ
I am back after installing new heatsink-fan. There is a significant change in tempratures and noise. I installed " Thermaltake silent 775 CL-P0092", It costed me CND$45. It is very quite.
Without overclocking at 48 Celcius.
Now I am running average load at 3.366 GHZ (20% overcloclocked) at 54 celcius.
With heavy load at 3.366 GHZ it remains under 60 celcius.
Overall now I am happy with the performance of Pentium D 820. Whoever want to buy Pentium D 820 for heavy work at some point will change the intel heatsink and fan. So it is wise to addup the cost of new heatsink fan with processor for better budgeting for new dual core intel PC's.
Thanks,
Ali
