Is the only difference between these two CPUs:
- the clock speed (2.6 GHz vs 2.8GHz)
- the the memory controler (1066 on the G620 and 1333 on the G840)

In a slightly seperate question if I use a couple of 1333 mem sticks I have lying around with the G620 they "should" work at the slower speed? I know that it is not going to be true always, but in general that would be the case.

So you're paying about ~$15 more for features that might not give you a tangible improvement. The extra 200MHz might make a difference but not with the faster RAM. Not even worth considering based upon which has support for faster RAM as both will never be overclocked. In the case with the G620 and the RAM, it should be like what you have stated.

That's correct. According to Intel's Ark site, the G840 has a true 1333 mHz speed memory controller.

You can always run memory at slower speeds. Running memory faster is not guaranteed.

It's really not a big deal, it says that the cpu only supports 1066 so if you buy it knowing that then it's your own fault for buying 1333mhz ram. I only got the 1333mhz ram because it was $20 for 2x2gb and I knew I would get a i3 2100 in a short time

Well why should intel gimp those celerons? It's not going to make me buy the Pentiums because of the memory controller. Clockspeed and cache, maybe.

Looking at the past and the celeron history the new SB celerons are very nice,,,

Yeah, My G530 has the mem controller locked at 1066.

I can't even change it on this ECS board at all but its so stable right now, I guess I have no reason to tweak it anyways.
