People Giving Away Computer Parts & Supplies

I saw this mentioned on a different forum a couple weeks ago and have been trying it out, I just got 120 GB External HD and some extra RAM for almost nothing. On Listia.com, users give away stuff they no longer want, and get stuff in return that they do want from other people for free. The entire site is free, no fees, and most people offer free shipping if they are not local.

I gave away a bunch of random cords, and computer parts that I thought were outdated, and people bid on my items using a auction system, but instead of money they use credits. I used those credits to get the HD and new RAM. It's a pretty interesting system, I don't have much money, so this works for me because no money ever exchanges hands.

It's worth a look if you need some computer parts or other random stuff for free.

Listia seems interesting but I don't see the difference between it and say a regular auction site, except you're using virtual money instead of real money. I mean, couldn't you just sell your items for real money, then use that real money to purchase the items you want?

I guess the only real benefit Listia might have over say eBay, is if it doesn't charge "credits" to list an item for auction and/or doesn't charge "credits" after the auction is over.

This isn't meant as a thread crap, I'm just trying understand the benefits of that site over a traditional money-based auction site.

plus your not paying money your getting rid of stuff you dont want that probably wouldnt sell for money (or very much, say $5.00) on ebay, but you can get say 100 points which you can turn in for something that would be worth (you have to buy) for $10-$20 on ebay.

Or worst case you get rid of all your old junk to people who want it, even if you dont get anything someone uses your stuff instead of just throwing it out.

I guess I kinda of like Listia for getting rid of stuff that doesn't have any real value left, but could still be used by someone. For example, old cell phones, vhs tapes, clothes... you can't really sell a VHS tape on eBay because it would cost too much to list and ship, to where no one would buy it.
But you could list it on Listia, get some credits for it, and then get some new DVDs in return.
Anyway, i found it works well for my old computer parts.

Nice find! I've been wanting a nice and organized trading website like this and this is quite perfect. There are just some things I can't practically sell on eBay and this is a nice place to offload them.

I've got a Saitek keyboard and Radeon HD 3450 up there if anyone wants to try bidding.
