It appears to me that most of the people posting replies lack the ability of abstract thought, so the OP was edited to something simple.
LOL... It's not "most of the people posting replies" fault that your two thoughts didn't really flow with each other.

Also, some families have just one parent working... I see no problem with that.

The post did flow together, most of the readers could not figure it out.

You see no problem with 1 parent working, and the kids being on state assistance?

If they have the desire to excel then they'll go to school, but having a job during highschool is valuable imo.

Really?! I'd have thought that would be a nightmare, maybe a small part-time job at the weekend at most...

Got my first job at 17.

OK, so let me recap this:

School bus stop
a few 13-14 year olds
a couple probably 18-19 year olds
School bus picks up 13-14 year olds
The 18-19 year olds walk back home

Your interpretation:
OMFG THOSE LAZY SOB 18 YEAR OLDS GET A JOB YOU NOOB STOP MOOCHING OFF THE SYSTEM

My interpretation(s):
Older siblings looking out for their younger siblings
18-19 year olds usually mean they're in college, and you don't have a dress code for that, so they could very well be walking back home to get ready for class
18-19 year olds usually get menial jobs out of high school; i.e. retail, fast food, etc... There's a good possibility their work day doesn't start until 9am or even later and work into the evening

tl;dr
You're incredibly critical of these two kids for absolutely no fucking reason because of this one guy you know.

Edit: I now see that you edited your post and have tried to explain your thought process for your OP.

So the story is about mooching the system and not because of these kids? Then why put the kids in there at all? By including the kids as the introduction of your argument, then you're suggesting that the kids are also mooching off the system.

This could be the smartest thing you've ever posted.

Of course, the OP's example isn't exactly the same thing, since the fellow in question is leeching off of society.

Yes the certainly is that, but IMO if you want to stay at home to look after the kids while your partner works, why not get as much financial help from the government as you are eligible to get?

Because "help from the government" means your fellow citizens are paying for that. And it's not my neighbor's job to pay taxes for me to stay at home to raise my kids.

Those types of people are parasites on society, and its one of the many reasons this nation is going broke.

At the very least, make an effort to get a skill or education so your family does not receive benefits.

I beg to differ, I pay my taxes for a combination of things, health care, to support the government, for a good education system, but also so that those who are less fortunate than me can support themselves. I have enough money to live, and those who don't I believe should get some support from other people who have enough money.

I'm definitely for people bettering themselves, but I think that it's important to have a parent at home with the kids and if that means you can't fully support yourself then the government should help.

No it didn't, you saw some kids at a bus stop at 7:15am then started rambling about how people don't work and your friend stays at home.
Exactly!

For example... I am home when my youngest gets on the bus. Then I walk back into my house and relax for a bit before I go to bed. Must be because I'm lazy and leeching, right?!?!

Either that or I just worked a f'n 12 hour night shift and I'm exhausted! But you wouldn't know that, because all you saw was a 10 minute slice of my life. (Btw, this is true... I work nights.)

Wow. I retract my statement, this thread is back to winning. OP changes original post and this thread just became a giant WTF.

Sometimes when I'm at work I take a 30 minute lunch break, pop on a jacket and head out for a coke and a sandwich! Clearly I'm leaching off the state and should be executed.

...Sometimes I even walk past the bus stop!

Oh, I don't disagree with you there. But I don't think anyone would agree that someone who stays at home to take care of their kids is "less fortunate." If someone chooses to have kids and be a stay at home parent, that's their responsibility... Not someone else's.

Oh yeah!...well I'm a huge leach then. Because sometimes, when I work 5 days....I take two off before I do it again.

Yes it is but I believe that society owes a duty of care to both the children in our society and those less fortunate. If supporting our children means supporting the parents so that they can support the children then so be it.

I don't mean that all parents are less fortunate, I mean that those who are unable to take good care of their children and work are less fortunate.

These are the best threads... You know, where someone has this rant, that they've probably been stewing over for hours (or days), then when they post it on ATOT, they JUST KNOW that everyone will obviously agree with them!

But then ATOT takes a turn and bites them in the ass.

But you are right, it got extra magical when he changed the original after he realized it wasn't working out so well for him... But alas, it's too late.
