after they lose they weight, wouldn't the small stomach become an issue in terms of nutrition?

I'd doubt it's that big a deal. If it were going to be a problem, it would already be evident as they were starting to lose the weight, not suddenly after months of dieting after some magic weight number was reached.

why would it cause nutrition problems? nutrients are absorbed in the intestine, not the stomach. the operation reduces the size of the stomach so you can't eat a lot, but you can absorb all the nutrients without a problem.

but if you can't eat enough, aren't you not getting all the nutrition you need?

I've had it done. I take multi-vitamins every day. We have to be sure to eat a lot of protein. We get all the nutrition we need. Just do some Googling or something on the subject.

You can eat as much as you need. The only people who might need more are athletes, and if you're an athlete you wouldn't need the surgery to begin with. From my understanding, the main purpose of the surgery is to eliminate the feeling of hunger/ability to eat by making it take less food to make you full.

from what i remember they are forced to eat the same way forever or screw up the surgery

doesnt fat cell require some energy for maintenance as well?
plus they don't have to carry around all that weight
i guess it would be an issue ifthey suddenly wanted to be a body builder.

If you are interested in this, you may want to explore the LapBand as an alternative. Someone I know had this done and is down from 350 to 190 in about 20 months. He still eats normal sized meals.

My cousin had to take protien shakes. And no, it cannot be undone. When it's initially done it reduces the stomach size down to 2oz, and it will later stretch back to 8oz. I have a cousin that went from 380 to 150 in a matter of months from following it.

As far as I know nutrition is an issue from the beginning. People with gastric bypass have to keep on a strict regimen of taking nutrition supplements from day1

It's all about the diet, didn't that Al Roker (sp?) guy have it done then gain a lot of weight back?

I too have a friend that got the lap band done for 20k the doctors inject saline to tighten it up and is completely reversable.

Actually a significant portion of the small intestine is removed as well. Patients take daily multivitamins to ensure sufficient nutrition.
