performance of Ultra memory?

At work, I've been given the assignment of putting together three computers that are essentially high-end gaming rigs. Currently, I'm looking at different types of memory. We'll be using Athlon FX-55 processors, and so I wanted memory with low timings--there are a bunch of 2x512MB dual-channel kits that give 2-2-2-5 timings at 400MHz.

However, while looking for the best prices, I came across a company called Ultra that boasts a 1024MB dimm with 2-2-2-5 timings. Has anyone had any experience with this product or this company? If this is for real, then I'd probably put in 2GB of memory in dual-channel mode. The product is relatively new (the website says it was added Dec. 1) so I'm not surprised there isn't much information about it yet... TIA.

This is unusual...the words "Work" and "gaming rigs" don't normally go together in the same sentence!!! I want your job!!

As for the original question sorry I am useless....

I have 1 stick of Ultra 512mb, pc3200 DDR400.

I can't say much, everything has been great for a month now. I have never played with timings or anything of that sort, or OC'd ram. Yet to get there. I'm not sure if mine is the low latency stuff though, I think mine is CL3. Heck, it was cheap. Um, consider this a useless recommendation because I really don't know what to compare it to. It's better than my PC133 ram.

edit: i'd be glad to run some tests and/or benchies on it for ya!

All of the reviews I've seen put it right below OCZ's RAM for speed, but for a lot less money. Considering that Ultra RAM is Samsung chips on Brainpower PCB assembled by PDP (Patriot), it doesn't surprise me that it's actually pretty good RAM. I could do without the mahogony box, though. How much more am I paying for that?!?!

i have worked on three systems that had ULTRA memory. all three were built with tiger direct components. out of six sticks of ram i had to replace 5 because of system stability problems. the one stick that worked only lasted another 2 months and the owner came in and bought a replacement. i can't recomend the product or the vendor

I bet they all had the same motherboard, though. 5 out of 6 "bad" when otherwise everyone else has a 98% success rate? Doesn't sound like we're seeing the big picture.

Seriously, this RAM is made by a reputable firm out of reputable components, is sold by many vendors, is reviewed by several sites and is mentioned by happy users on many forums. Yet you've had 5 out of 6 that are bad?

actually 2 were "maverick" motherboards, one was an "msi". all were bought in one of the packages that are VERY cheap. we purchased a gigabyte m/b and a new processor dedicated to test these systems. there were a couple of months that i fixed a string of systems bought from this vendor. it got old in a hurry. i was taught in college : if you don't have time to do it right the first time, what makes you think you have time to do it again. the same thing applies to computers but insert money in place of time. some of these deals(too cheap) cost more in the end. so shop smart

Ultra is a Tiger Direct/Infotel house brand. I wouldn't buy a 10-cent card slot filler bracket from those weasels.
