Don't know if it's true but I heard if you leave out a big bowl of bacon grease the racoon will lap it up, get a nasty case of diarrhea and they won't come back again.

Just stop feeding it and leave your cat inside for a week or two. THe my excellent compatriot will lose interest and find somewhere else to get food.

I had this problem before, the guy at the game commision told me the most effecive way is the following...

Take a sealable sandwich bag and fill it with ammonia then seal it and coat it with peanut butter. Place several of these in your yard.
the raccoons will bite into them and get a burning surprise and will go away.

Cut off any possible food supply. Then close off and board up any possible living areas or places they get into.

I had a family living under my house a while back. Once there is no food and no place to go they just leave and find some place else to inhabit.

It's been there for 2 years now, and we never had a problem: works great. So, a stray cat was ruled out.

If it doesnt open to anything other than your cat then how did the raccoon get in?

Because cats are rather stupid, they push the door flap inside with their head. There's a stop-hook on the inside, which lowers only if the cat has a magnetic collar on it. Magnet triggers the relay, and the hook is lowered.

Raccoons, however, simply pull the flap outwards, and there's nothing there to stop it

Just kill it. Raccoons are a CONSTANT problem where I live. We've had 4 or 5 euthanized by Animal Control. They carry a lot of diseases and won't think twice about ripping your cat to shreds.

1. barricade door
2. remove all sources for food outside
3. when he learns the free meal is over, he'll move on.

yeah it's not as convenient for you with the cat door temporarily out of operation, but then how convenient is it cleaning up all the time?
