"will be starting sometime in the future" and "work right now" are two different things... Future proofing is wasting money as you can just buy the newer part for less money when the future arrives.
That being said, the list is bigger then I thought. With three pretty heavy games out there who do that it might be worth it.
I am honestly more concerned with the load times on nwn2 (thanks to their module system you have many authors making complete independent campaigns, but their load times are atrocious). And I think that is single threaded.
And I am also concerned with compression rates. Which, starting with the newest beta winrar can use quadcore... So I guess it is beneficial...
