Come on guys WTF where is the love.

AMD needs to revamp the whole CPU scene such as including a graphics core within a multi-core chip for themselves to come back on top again. AMD was innovative with their K8 architecture, now they need to be innovative again, and not just fine tuning the same thing because fabrication-wise, Intel has them beat.

What's weird about that in a way is we already have motherboards with integrated video. So, why is it supposed to be revolutionary to have a GPU on a CPU?

When Quake Wars, Allen Wake, and Cyrsis shows up, you will likely see the forums turn on fire.

You mean "Fusion" from AMD? As it stands today the GPU and CPU work independently using an external bus. AMD plans to form the GPU and CPU together behind a wall of cache and a single memory controller.

No, the XBOX/XBOX 360 have a "normal" cpu, along with a "normal" gpu. And Fusion isn't meant for the desktop (at least for the time being); it's for laptops, where it actually makes a bit of sense, especially with the cheaper laptops.Originally posted by: aigomorla
didnt microsoft try to do that a while back ago. A fusion of game software with hardware.
OH YEAH ITS CALLED XBOX.
If AMD does do this, they might as well goto the console world.

Fusion is actually a pretty good idea; it will allow your CPU to use a processing engine that can do floating point operations as well as a graphics card, which is a huge benefit as they are many times faster at that than current CPU's.

in theory...
But i have yet to see a fusion system up, or even a demo or a sneak peak at these screenies.
If you have some data, please post as i am interested in this for a gaming machine.
But my servers, and WCG Farm, will stay intel. As i said, theres no way a phenom can put out 2x per clock of what a yorkie can.

Welcome Penryn and Yorksfield.
You guys can stay on native quadcores. I'll be running octos soon.

As it stands, AMD has no chance in the server world. Who would buy a phenom when you can get a yorkie. Also when it boils down to it, if they want the gamers market, they might as well move to consoles. For the PC and Computer arena, ATI/AMD is getting hit very hard.
And for me personally, it all boils down to which system will produce the most WCG Bionic Points at the end of the day.
Lets not start at how badly my Xeon is pwning a dual FX system. And a Yorkie with twice the cores of a AMD counterpart will win regardless of how well phenom arch is setup. And i highly doubt phenom's clock/performance is 2x yorkie.

It's not a matter of Intel's marketing. It's a matter of their positioning. They were the only show in town for years and grew into a beast practically over night.
You don't have to have the best product in town when you own more than 3/4 of the consumer and business markets.
The reason why people think AMD's marketing is so bad is that they really only have one market segment and that's the highly lucrative enterprise and server markets. And trust me, they did enough conventions and forums with them while shutting out the consumer market completely.
