Ten reasons Atlanta does not deserve to go to the Super Bowl.

1. The city's fans were voted the worst in America by the Sporting News and GQ magazine.

2. The night Henry Aaron hit his 711th career home run on the way to breaking Babe Ruth's record, fewer than 1,500 people showed up at the Braves' ballpark. "This was a pretty strong statement of what Atlanta thought of me and my record," Aaron said.

3. The Georgia Bulldogs outdraw the Falcons.

4. In a span of 15 post-season home games, the Braves failed to sell out nine times.

5. Relatives of the Falcons' once cheered when the team's starting quarterback, Chris Chandler, was injured in a game. When Chandler's wife complained, one of the relatives threw a can of beer at her.

6. The town was called "Loserville, USA," by Sports Illustrated.

7. Its topless Gold Club is known for luring innocent sports stars like Patrick Ewing and Dennis Rodman with sex favors.

8. During the 2003 National League playoffs, not a single local network affiliate agreed to televise the Braves-Cubs series. It was finally broadcast by a low-wattage UHF station.

9. When the Falcons clinched just their third division title in 39 years in a game against the Raiders last month, there were more than 5,000 no-shows at the Georgia Dome. The stadium was half-empty by the fourth quarter.

10. "Frankly, dear, I don't give a damn." - The most famous quote by the town's most famous fan, Rhett Butler.

1. The city's fans were voted the worst in America by the Sporting News and GQ magazine.
Braves consistently in the top of the league in attendance, Falcons have been sold out for a couple of years, Hawks not worthy of our attendance.

2. The night Henry Aaron hit his 711th career home run on the way to breaking Babe Ruth's record, fewer than 1,500 people showed up at the Braves' ballpark. "This was a pretty strong statement of what Atlanta thought of me and my record," Aaron said.
That's BS - there are at least 300K people claiming, "I was there."

3. The Georgia Bulldogs outdraw the Falcons.
Uh, yeah, Sanford Stadium holds at least 10K more people than the Dome - both are almost always sold out.

4. In a span of 15 post-season home games, the Braves failed to sell out nine times.
Braves fans are undoubtably spoiled and jaded. When they were playing the Pirates in the early 90s, the Pirates weren't sold out either.

5. Relatives of the Falcons' once cheered when the team's starting quarterback, Chris Chandler, was injured in a game. When Chandler's wife complained, one of the relatives threw a can of beer at her.
Oh please, wanna compare Eagles fans to Falcons fans in class????

6. The town was called "Loserville, USA," by Sports Illustrated.
Until the Braves won the WS in '95, Atlanta had never won a championship in a major sport. Label fit then.

7. Its topless Gold Club is known for luring innocent sports stars like Patrick Ewing and Dennis Rodman with sex favors.
The Gold Club is a parking lot.

8. During the 2003 National League playoffs, not a single local network affiliate agreed to televise the Braves-Cubs series. It was finally broadcast by a low-wattage UHF station.
Dunno the details on this one.

9. When the Falcons clinched just their third division title in 39 years in a game against the Raiders last month, there were more than 5,000 no-shows at the Georgia Dome. The stadium was half-empty by the fourth quarter.
The stadium is consistently partially empty for 1:00 Sunday starts. Bible belt and all. The stadium is usually full by the middle of the 1st quarter. The game wasn't competitive by the 4th quarter...

10. "Frankly, dear, I don't give a damn." - The most famous quote by the town's most famous fan, Rhett Butler.

atlanta always has and always will be a college football town.

and the gold club was closed down a few years ago for tax reasons i believe.

and chandler SUCKED, he deserved what he got.

and whatever else. go dirty birds. after the eagles get shut down i expect all of you on this thread telling us it's mcnabb that's the joke, not vick. he might not be the most accurate passer in the nfl but the man will bust off 300 yards and a few touchdowns on you if needed, and if that's how they win then so be it.

i love how you guys want to talk smack about the dome, it's not like the players put it up or even have a choice in the matter. a bunch of our guys came from the north playing outdoors, so it's not like they don't know what it's like to play in the cold.

I'd say 3 turnovers from Vick sounds about right. 1 fumble and 2 picks.

Main Reason why Atlanta has mostly fairweather fans because our population is mostly transplants (like myself & roommate who moved here 15 & 10 years ago). Half of top 10 fastest growing counties within atlanta metro from 2000-2003 and before that in previous decades 7 different fastest counties in top 20. In fact, I only know only a handful of people who grew up here. So if any of you guys moved down to atlanta of course your gonna still root for your teams & not switch to atlanta teams, that's how it is here for most of the people. Rooting for teams they rooted for before they moved down here, so usually you have to a winning product before people change their loyalties. When I moved down here I was a Browns fan because I was from Cleveland, but after the Browns moved to Baltimore with no team to root for I started going to Falcons games. I enjoyed the Falcons even though they were losing. The Browns came back four years later, but it wasn't really the same. Braves attendance Figures (10 seasons in top 5, many of those in top 3, one season #1). But with a mix of constant losing in playoffs, fans getting tired with Time Warner cutting payroll & getting rid of favorite players (Maddux,Glavine,Millwood,Sheffield), mixed with the mostly northeast transplants of course your gonna see drop-off in attendance. Braves Drew Well, Hawks Drew Well in the 80's Omni was soldout everynight but that changed when Dominique was traded. Philadelphia Phillies attendance Pretty Empty the past 3 years, if you don't put a winning product on the field then people won't come. Look at the Yankees & New York City (population over 5 times greater then Atlanta) in the mid 1980's - early 1990's and attendance was horrible. Not until the Yankees started winning in the mid to late 90's did Yankee stadium become full again. Again, no matter where you are people won't come unless you put a winning product or new stadium.

Highly illogical. If Atlanta beats Philadelphia, then they obviously will have earned the right to go to the Super Bowl.

Oh, and how about those Phillies? They've lost more games than any team in any sport in the last century or so.

Hahaha. Next!

Out dated data? That suppose to mean anything? Vick's not playing against Bucs.

Yes, retard. It shows that he is not "untouchable." Get off his balls.
Vick was apparently untouchable enough to rush for 81 yards against them...

This bullshit stat coming from a guy who calls someone else highly illogical? They're one of the oldest teams, and baseball plays 83984 games a year, so of course it would be the highest in "any sport"

How quickly you forget that Atlanta beat Tampa Bay earlier this year, 24-14 in Atlanta....Its extremely difficult to beat the same team 2x in a season, especially the Bucs.

Vicks Stats :

ATT YDS AVG LG TD
RUSHING : 9 73 8.1 41 0

PASSING : 8/16 147 9.2 1 1 (TD / INT)

So quick to trash Vick, but you give him little credit for basically making the Falcons a SuperBowl contender.

In toto, since the late 1800's ( ), the Phillies have lost a lot.

Michael Vick is an electrically exciting option QB. Too bad he's used up his college eligibility.

The Eagles will win this Sunday, hands down. Even w/o T.O., they are simply the better team. Never bet against a Jim Johnson defense.

I would also think it is "extremely difficult" for a "super bowl contenter" to get shut out and blown out by a 5-11 team late in the season.

I really don't see Vick doing much of anything. The Eagles' cornerbacks are much better than the Falcons' WRs so the Eagles D can just play like 8 in the box and single cover the WRs with single safety help. With Dawk in the box, Vick will not want to run ANYWHERE. When Vick was recently asked about what he remembered most about the playoffs, one of the two answers he gave was the MASSIVE hit Dawk laid on him as he tried to run into the end zone. He hasn't even been introduced to Michael Lewis yet. Vick will be terrified on Sunday.

As far as Atlanta beating Green Bay in the playoffs 2 years ago, go back and look at the game breakdown. They scored one offensive touchdown. Most points came off of special teams. The Eagles special teams are VERY good. They gave up some yards last week so there is no way they are going to have any break downs this week.

The Atlanta D is very good (however, NOT as good as the Bucs two years ago or Carolina last year- plus, this year Brian Westbook is playing). I think the Eagles O is going to score enough to win the game.

I think that the "X-factor" in this game will be the weather. It could be bad enough to completely change both teams game plans...

I've never been a big fan of our fight song, but it is fun to sing when you're all drunk and rowdy and the Eagles have just scored and there's 67,000 people all singing together.

/edit: I was hoping some atlanta fans would dispute my previous post... but I guess they can't handle complicated things like facts.

Vick won't be "terrified" and he will run no matter what. You saying that he will not want to run is rediculous. Everyone likes to pile on Vick and say that he sucks as a QB, etc etc. Well, the guy has won nearly 70% of the games that he has started.

Regarding Atlanta winning is Lambeau, go back and look at the facts. Vick was 5-5 in his first drive, including a touchdown pass. Then they blocked a punt for a touchdown. 14-0 immediately. Then they scored after a muffed punt and it was 21-0. Why would Vick have to pass at all when they are up three TDs?

Atlanta's D-line is SO much better than Minnesota. McNabb is not going to be comfortable in the pocket.

And good luck with keeping 8 in the box and stopping the run. Crumpler is Vick's favorite target and he will definitely find space if the Eagles do that.

To talk like the Eagles have no chance of losing this game in so myopic. The Falcons are just as good as the Eagles. It is going to be a good game. The Eagles are not going to destroy the Falcons, and I don't think the Falcons will destroy the Eagles.

That is true that Atlanta wins a lot of games when Vick plays, but without him, they are NOTHING (what were they, like 2-10 without Vick last year). Philadelphia is a great TEAM.

It is true they may not have needed to pass in the GB game, but Vick doesn't pass well at all. ~2200 yards in the regular season is pretty bad. The only team that had less passing yards was Chicago and Baltimore(ouch!). 14 pass TD / 12 INT is pretty bad. 3 rushing TD / 3 fumbles is pretty bad. He does have a killer arm, but he just doesn't have the brain to go along with it YET (I do think he will get better).

It is also true that Crumpler is very good and that may be your strongest offensive threat on Sunday. The first Vikings game, one of the Cowboys games, and the Browns game showed that it is possible for TEs to get some yardage on us.

But you are correct, I don't think this is going to be a blowout win either. If TO was playing, then it would be a blowout win.

Super secret X factor- Greg Lewis. Remember it!
