"PHILADELPHIA (KYW) Police and prosecutors concerned with a spate of killings in the city begged the public Monday for more help identifying murderers.

District Attorney Lynne M. Abraham vowed that her office will protect witnesses, even if it means sending a moving van to their home to take them to safety the day they come forward.

?We cannot only move you out of the city, we can move you out of the state; we can move you across the country,? Abraham said.

Within the past eight days there have been 21 homicides in Philadelphia, including three in the late-night and early morning hours after the prosecutor made her appeal Monday..."

Oh my god, people there are dropping like flies. We need to withdrawl the police.

Welcome to Dallas, Texas - America's Murder Capital

Guardian Angels

Good to see that Philly's only getting 21 in a 8 day span . . .
Dallas is averaging 5 per night this week . . .
Philly has only 1/2 of what is Dallas' projection.

Texas Justice . . kill 'Em all.

Philly by far has more murders per year, Dallas has more per capita. Dallas and Texas have a recent problem with Mexican Drug cartels killing people and the federal govt refuses to put presssure on the Mexican govt.

Not far behind Texas at 3 killings a night here in New Orleans

Of course they are not written down that way, they write them down as domestic dispute with baby sitter.

S'funny, I heard on the news this morning multiple times that Baghdad is officially the most dangerous city to live in (shocker). They mentioned that the most dangerous US city to live in was Atlanta, while the safest was Honolulu. Didn't hear Philly brought up at all.

It's been known to happen with these cheerleaders Seriously though, I don't doubt Philly has a crime problem, I'm just passing along what I heard more than once during my morning drive in. Should have mentioned also that the safest city in the world happens to be Luxembourg. Second after Baghdad for most dangerous was Abidjian, Ivory Coast. Hmm, maybe they have a kot problem there too.

Now add the Iraqis killed.

Now how does Detroit look? Oh that's right. Iraqis dead by our action are not important

Well yeah, but if we hadn't removed Sadaam those people would have surely been tortured and killed soon anyway. We were just making it faster for them.

This sums up my feelings on statements like the above:

PART 1: NUMERICAL PERSPECTIVE
OVERHEARD ON THE INTERNET:
There were 39 combat related killings
in Iraq during the month of January...
In the fair city of Detroit there were
35 murders in the month of January.
How's that for perspective!
PASS THIS ON!

-------------

HOWEVER, BEFORE YOU "PASS ON" THE ABOVE INFORMATION, please note the following responses on the internet:
DETROIT VS. IRAQ
Detroit, total population from 2000 Census: 951,000
Detroit, Total Murders in 2003: 366
Average Murders per month: 30.5
Monthly Murders / Total Population: .000032
Monthly per capita likelihood of being murdered in Detroit: .000032 %
Detroit average monthly murders Per 10,000 people: [point].32

US TROOPS IN IRAQ
Average total US troops in Iraq: 138,000
Number of US Casualties in Iraq Since March, 2003: 1114
Average US fatalities, per month: 58.6
US Monthly Fatality rate per capita: .00042
Average Monthly Fatalities per 10,000 troops: 4[point].2
Ratio of likelihood of dying as a US soldier in Iraq as by murder in Detroit:
25 : 2
Therefore, a US serviceman in Iraq is 12.5 times more likely to die than someone in Detroit is likely to be murdered.

Phili being more dangerous than baghdad is BS. Anyone who makes a claim of that nature is nothing short of dishonest.

Will you people stop repeating the OP's abysmally ignorant spelling of Philly as "Phili". It's enough to make me want to murder you.

Glad to see Mayor John Street's city getting the recognition it deserves.

And I haven't seem where either Democrats or Republicans much care if inner city blacks kill each other, so I'm not sure what the point of this thread is. It seems most conservatives, while bravely stating the public case that "no man is an island" and mourning any loss of life, privately see this as a win-win scenario. For most Democrats, while making the public case that any loss of life is tragic and among the poor moreso, privately salivate over the prospect of using the deaths as a political club against Republican proposals.
