php newbie needs advice

I have a website and now I need to incorporate php so I can allow abotu 70 people to sign up as members and change around their personal info, etc. Where's a good place to start to learn this? A friend of mien already setup the database and I have the php server IP, btu I don't know the next step. THanks

Firstly, you should ask this question in the Software forums; but anyhow, here are some links which can hopefully help you get started:

Just do a Google search on "PHP tutorials" and you'll get a load of them.

Instead of learning php while implementing your site, i'd start with an established framework such as phpNuke (www.phpnuke.com) and build on that. Most likely what you will find if you do it yourself is that you'll manage to get some code working. However, as you learn the nuances and finer techniques of php, your existing code won't be as extendable. Yet, you may be forced to hang onto it because so many users are already dependent on it. Start with phpNuke, implement your existing site into that framework, and study/understand how that program handles things. Then concentrate you're php development and growth into extending that framework.

we're on a shared server though, can i run phpnuke on shared or does ti have to be dedicated?

You can install it in a root or virtual directory.......

www.yourserver.com/phpNuke/index.php

I've run it on a site thru a webhosting service before.
