Pimp My Hardhat

You know that the solvents in most spray paint can be bad for the polymers (is that the right term?) used in hardhats...right?
Fiberglass perhaps a bit less of a problem, but the hardhat is a vital part of your safety equipment...why take a chance of compromising it?

Yes I’ve been told that it may but I work for the government and they issued it to me painted for the color of our shop. So I would be just painting over the prior paint. I’m not trying to “pimp” my hardhat just painting it the same color. So any opinions?

I'd look into some kind of marine paint. That gets put on fiberglass.

Painted...or gel coated?

I've owned numerous MSA fiberglass hardhats that came with a colored gel coat on them to distinguish between crafts/departments.

I believe it is painted. But I didn’t ask. They just told us they wouldn’t be painting hardhats anymore because they cost my shop around $600 each!!!! Good question

Like BoomerD, I've been out of the trades for awhile (2014), but OSHA never allowed paint, stickers or any thing metallic on our hardhats as all that conducts electricity.
And it did not apply to just electricians, but every one on the sites. (heavy commercial and industrial)
We preferred the MSA fiberglass turtle hats with sun visor, neck shade and terrycloth sweatbands here in FL.
