Hi. The pixel 7 has been out awhile now. My son needs a new phone and he doesn't need the Samsung features I use but I don't have a great experience of non Samsung phones.
How's the he pixel 7 now? I assume that it's pretty solid after a few months of updates? Battery life ok? How much storage space left in a128gb version?

Cheers guys

I just picked one up 2 weeks ago to replace a 4 year old pixel 3a.

Battery life is great - >24 hours with my use. I have used 46/128 GB: nearly 9 for music, and 5.5 for photos, 15 for system, and 17 for apps. I don't have a lot of large apps on my phone, so this storage is going to last me a long time, especially considering the 3a I had was 64 GB, and wasn't even full when I traded it in.

The pixel is alright but the in house CPU isn't anything compared to the sd8g2. I went op11 at release for $700 shipped with 12gb / 256gb and it has all the latest tech.

Also, part of why I went with the Pixel 7: it was $150 off, the Google store was going to give me at least $100-$150 for my Pixel 3a as a trade in (which is kind of nuts), and it does seamless network switching for my Fi phone plan. Just a hard deal to pass up.

The 7 pro has been the best phone I've had by far.

Google seems to be growing up in the phone world. I hope the 8 continues this new beginning.

So it has about 110gbs free storage as new?

Fi dropped uscc and is only T-Mobile now.
Interesting to note. Either way, it wasn't a huge factor in my decision for a pixel (though, generally working 100% with my phone plan was a factor).

I think my reasons for choosing a pixel 7 were largely:
- Price on sale
- Long term software support for Android
- Great camera
- At least 128 GB of storage
- Fantastic trade-in offer on my 3a, which needed to be replaced soon anyway
- No issues or compatibility questions for running on Google Fi (regardless of network switching - just covering the right bands)

Google Fi
Better deal would be tello. $29/mo for 25gb and uses the same network. Fi is fine though if you want to pay more. It's convenient for Google stuff but, it's not a great deal monthly. Get the best hardware and an unlocked phone and then deal with coverage. Op11 has the most bands for coverage and speeds in T-Mobile for the price.

I don't really use data since I work from home, so part of why I stay with Fi is inertia and the low cost. The other reason is seamless international coverage.

$20/mo for talk and text isn't cheap. You could still do tello and 0 data with unlimited talk and text for $8/mo all in and free calls to international numbers. If you need to change the plan for a trip you just do it and then change back and the data carries over for 30 days.

Porting numbers and changing plan types for trips and whatnot is an annoyance I'd rather not deal with to save a few bucks. I'm personally not in a position where I need to cut my costs down to the bone like that.

Porting numbers
I ported to Google voice and leave it parked there and don't have to worry about the issue when switching plans or carriers any longer. It's $20 to port to Google and gives the same benefits as Fi for voice/text with the webui and gives you WiFi calling from any device that has a data connection.

It's not only about cutting costs but getting the ability to get free trials as well. Mint mobile just had a fre month of service in March. US mobile has a 100 day esim trial right now on their Verizon package. T-Mobile has a trial as well. Same goes for att and vzw directly. Overall with all of the free service deals you could have free service for 6+ months.

I'll leave it at that.

My experience with my pixel 6 and and my sister's pixel 7 on T-mo is that unless you are in an area with a very strong signal, you will have poor reception. I don't think the antennas on the P6 and 7 are very good. Her old S20 had much better signal strength in areas around my house where the P6 and 7 struggle to even have 1 bar. I have to leave my phone on wifi calling all the time at my house. Pretty annoying...

That's not want I wanted to hear. Already I only get 1 bar at work on Mint (running on T-Mobil). Doesn't sound like upgrading from the Nokia 6.1 to 7a will help in that regard.

If they allow returns, give it a try and see. The more returns they get due to poor reception, the more likely they will make improvements. But, I'd get a Sumsung if I am on T-mo until the Pixel gets fixed.
