If you have WinZip 8.1 and classic Unreal Tournament, you could do the WinZip/UT Maximum Compression benchmark... it seems to rely heavily on the CPU/memory/chipset love triangle.

  • Make a New Folder on your system drive
  • Copy the contents of UT Disc 1 to the New Folder (including hidden/system files)
  • Shut off any interfering programs, of course, such as antivirus software
  • Right-click on the New Folder, choose WinZip > Add to Zip file..., select Maximum (slowest) compression in the panel that appears, and begin timing as you click Add.
  • Stop timing when the progress bar disappears

So far, 1m27s is the time to beat (P4 2.53GHz/i850E/PC1066 RDRAM).

Two weeks and everybody will have one...maybe! LOL, just kidding, by the end of the month the market should be ripe with the GA-8INXP...(am I being too optimistic?)

A word of warning guys............

From the reviews I've seen of the E7205 chipset I'm not convinced that it's the best chipset for ultra-high FSB speeds. I've only seen 200MHz FSB achieved once and nothing higher than that. With unlocked P4s, the maximum FSB speeds in dual-channel mode were in the 170-190MHz FSB range. If you expect 220MHz+ FSB with GB then you may end up being disappointed.

That's a good point. If I had a hat it'd be off to PJ for giving this a go - for the benefit of GB owners everywhere!! This is a situation where I'd be very happy to be wrong.

PJ - very impressive results

I picked one of the 8INXP's up @ newegg today and some XMS 3500. I'm gonna slap that together with my 3.06 inside a Prometeia

Are you using the additional power supply?

Yes, I am using it. Make sure and come back here and let us know how it went. Better yet, start on thread on your experiences.

PJ is definitely building suspense for the 8INXP lovers.

I cannot wait until I get my hands on one of these bad boys. I plan to put some Corsair XMS PC3500 and a 3.06HT in that sucker.

BTW, I don't understand what the second "power supply" is for. Can anyone elaborate?

Thanks!!!

:: keeps fingers crossed for a chance to order 8INXP within the next week ::

One more thing, did you have any problems getting the Corsair to boot with the board? I'm thinking about getting some XMS3500 sticks...

I think he means the "Dual Power System" card to either have six-phase voltage regulation or a 3-phase backup VR module. in other words, the little card with the little LED fan on it.

I think they mean the DPS (Dual Power System) module. You can read all about it here.

Running it in dual-power (6-phase) mode should be quite beneficial when using very high-speed P4s (3.5GHz+) because it'll keep the voltage regulators much cooler. For the truly hardcore overclocker taking their P4s up towards 4GHz the 8INXP is the board to have!!

Yes PJ I will definately keep all updated on my experience with this setup... Really getting anxious!

Also will be using the DPS because I hope to close in on 4ghz mark, thanks for info regarding the power supply.
