Don't forget to set your virtual memory/paging file size. That might help a little.

I usually do my file system bench AFTER I have turned OFF the vir mem and run the defragmenter. I run 1 gig of mem, so I usually have it set real low anyways. It is the only thing annoying me at this point. I am sold on GB!

Yes, I was running XP before. I thnik the problem is something that can't be "defraged" or at least moved. There is a pretty good sized block that XP says is unable to be moved.

Yeah, there's gotta be something different from before, I can't believe it's the mobo/chipset that's causing it, but ya never know...

Thugs, you mean a different version of the IAA can do this? I actually just used the one off the cd. I will have to see what it is and go from there. Can you uninstall the IAA and put a nwer one on without a re-install of the OS?

Ahhh,

IAA version #2.3.0.2160
I don't believe that was the one I had on the P4PE.

PJ - noticed you're using an Alpha, is it crowded ? I have a Swifty 4000 w/ TTSmart2 I'd like to use on this board, but it's a little larger than the Alpha and any feedback would be appreciated. THX in advance Hope you solve your IAA issue!

I don't find it crowded at all. I had no problems installing it. I'll think you'll be fine with yours.

Wow, I just don't know what to do. Sandra file system is the exact same. Just can't figure it out. Not gonna worry about it right now, just bugs me.

PJ: What is your partition size? I have seen Sandra score vary depending on the free space on the partition

I have the full 160gb as one partition for my raid 0 setup. If I had not gotten a score of 48,000 on my last rig, it wouldn't bother me so much. I just know there is just one thing that is setting me back. Just gotta find it. Where is the bottleneck...

How is your raid set up? I get about 45,000 on this test w/ P4PE/2.53b/2x80g WD JB on onboard SATA using 3ware adaptors. I noticed you mentioned highpoint370 on your pg1 specs, I thought on board chip on 8INXP was Promise ata133 or SiliconImage SATA ? You using a raid card? If so, size of stripe, etc. the same as before?

Yeah, It is overkill. I wanted 8mb cache drives and these were all I could get at the moment. 40 gb would have been fine. Oh well. I'm not gonna lose any sleep over the Sandra scores. The last 3 boards I had I always got over 40,000. Just something about this board. No biggie.

If you want another HDD benchmark to try, go here: ATTO and hit Applications/Tools/Utilities. Their drive benchmarking utility will test read/write speeds using various block sizes. The storage fiends over at StorageReview.com's forums use this a lot. I agree, don't let the SiSoft scores bug you too much.

edit: you want the Windows SCSI Utilities Version 1.63. The "Disk Benchmark" will work on IDE drives too.

Yes, it is all the same. I am using a highpoint controller card. I don't care for the promise raid too much.

Also, if 40Gb would have been fine, why are you playing around with the kiddie toys instead of a nice 36Gb Cheetah 15k.3? Sub-4ms seek, mmm! $280 mobo but no SCSI... tsk tsk!

Almost went SCSI. Probably should have, but I had never used it before and liked these WD SE drives.
