Machine.ini file was just emailed to you.

Also, I use a 2005fpw and it works just fine. You can even set a custom resolution so it can be displayed in proper widescreen through the machine.ini file.

It may not be related to the monitor at all. I had the same thing happen because it doesn't like the chip for volume control in my Saitek Gamer keyboard. Once I went into the device manager and disabled the HID device related to it that problem went away.

That look too much like a mix of halo, tribes, and UT, why play it when you can still play upgraded version of each

Because Halo, Tribes, and UT don't have ~16 persistant massive battlefields, each holding about 400 people at once. Also, none of those are objective based.

Not understanding your logic there... with your logic, shouldn't it be why buy and play all three separately when you can buy and play one exclusively?

It's also sort of similar to asking "Why play WOW when you can play Warcraft 3, StarCraft, and Diablo 2 with new custommods?"

Anyway, played it for a few hours, it's not bad for an MMOFPS but there are tons of improvement that can multiply the fun of the game. For example, our 'colony' was losing all the bases in this one particular map last night. Then this one guy took one of the mobile spawn vehicles to some random point of the map, three of us spawned there - completely empty base - then took it over by just taking out a few turrets and going into the building and waiting for about 10-15 minutes or something.

I will most likely play this for free for a bit more but in the end, I'm looking forward to the next generation MMOFPS that will revolutionize the genre like WOW did for MMORPGs.

How is it possible to organize all these people? I mean, given the usual tendencies of online players, people will go off and do their own thing 100% of the time and ignore their teammates.

edit: I've decided to forgo my usual hate of anything Sony and give this a try...

How does a first person shooter work with an RPG? I mean... do you need to be a certain level to make headshots or have a "bunny hop" skill ups?

Hey, if it's good all together, then I guess that's cool.. but I'm saying there are those 3 games out already, with newer versions and better graphics and gameplay (from what I can tell).. I'd rather a specialized game then a crappier collaboration of all
I'll have to try it out when I get some free time, though.. to get a real opinion

edit: i found a usb consumer control thinger and disabled it and it disabled the volume control from my kyb but the game still wouldn't display an image. still got a black screen with sound

its not really an rpg. its just a persistent world where you earn ranks to earn skills to use vehicles or certain types of weapons.

It's not an RPG. It's a FPS. So you can "bunny hop" all you want. A Battle Rank(BR) 1 soldier can beat a BR 25 person no problem. It's mostly about skill.

When you advance in BR, you get whats called a Certification Point. It allows you access to more and varied kinds of equipment, like specialised guns for indoors/short range, outdoors/long range, or Anti-Vehicle, and vehicles, like tanks, planes, buggies, or troop transports. Also, you can use your Cert Points to get support skills, like repairing, healing, and hacking.

The biggest way to avoid the 'Lone Wolf' kind of gameplay in PlanetSide is to join an Outfit(think clan, but with less magic spells). An outfit allows people of similar play styles to group together and enjoy a good game of team stomping on the enemy. We all work together because we want to. Teamspeak is also very prevelent among outfits. Most have their own server, or at least share with a couple other outfits.

Also, PlanetSide encourages people to group together. The Medium Battle Tanks all have a driver and a gunner. The Galaxy dropship allows dropping of a whole squad of people(10) down from the sky onto the top of anything. The developers have worked hard to encourage people to group together.

I tried it out. Pretty cool. It's damn hard to make kills using the regular infantry weapons though. Seems like the only way to earn xp fast is to find someone w/ a vehicle and hop in the gunner position.

The game just has a high learning curve. Find a squad and you get BEP for everyone that anyone in your squad kills.

hmm, it turns out it's not completely free.

Once you get to BFR 6 it tells you to buy it in order to continue earning experience.

So I guess Planet Side is the next Tribes? Just it have a monthly subscription?

I loved the fact that Tribes had neat tricks like disc mining in the air.

You throw out a mine and mid air shoot a disc at it. If you timed it right it would kill a heavy in two shots.

/sigh. This is the hard part about explaining PlanetSide.

There is no game that comes close to it. Every single FPS so far is personal server based. Anything you do on one server doesn't matter on another, sans a few(i.e. BF2 gun unlocks, stats recording, etc.). PlanetSide is made up of, essentially, 3 servers. Markov/West US, Emerald/East US, and Werner/Europe. PlanetSide is also persistant. So what if you got 58/1 last night on CS:S or Halo. In PlanetSide, what you do the night before might have a great effect on the next day, or someone might destroy everything you did the day before during the night. At the end of you play session, PlanetSide makes you feel good, or like you've won, when you've taken a Continent, a large amount of bases, or made a significant impact on the fighting, whether your 58/1 or 1/58.

Also, you can have a solider in PS that is completly supportive of other troops, i.e. drive vehicles, create mobile spawn points, heal friendlies, repair friendly vehicles, create router points, etc.

So no, PlanetSide is not the next Tribes.

I run with the outfit Warrior Nation. Were a tight bunch at high times, so if you can listen to orders and get along with most people, send a tell to Zensal or do a /who WNx to see whos on and ask for an invite.

Or you can check out www.warriornation.net
