Playing games on a LAN

I have two computers connected via cards and a twisted cable and would like to play some games across the network. The network is set up with file and printer sharing.
Any directions as to a site to set this up?
I have Q3 and UT.

Install TCP/IP on both computers and bind it to both NICs.
In the Network settings of the TCP/IP for the NICs, specify your IP addresses as 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 respectively and the subnet mask as 255.255.255.0 for both.

Then, you should be able to play LAN games using the in-game option.

Does Q3 and UT work over the network?

Some games use the IPX protocol rather than TCP/IP, so install IPX as well.

I've run UT over the network now but haven't tried Q3. I'm getting periodic freezes so don't know if its a vid issue or what.
I downloaded a MS patch for networked drives to prevent freezes and toned the volt and freq down on the cpu and vid card.
I've also been running at 32 bit 1024 x 768 with a p3@733, 196 mb of cas 2 ram and a tnt2 diamond viper card. Is that a lot to ask?
Temps seem okay on the mb, 33c after gaming.

Madden I, Yes both were designed to do so. There really is not a single player game in the style of Quake2 or HalfLife. Q3 has Capture the Flag and Deathmatch. UT comes with CTF, DM, Domination, and Assault. You can play against bots in either game. I'm not sure about Q3, but UT uses the TCP/IP protocol for Lan play.

Both UT and Q3 use TCP/IP, so don't bother with IPX unless you have some other game that requires it
