I had a old ati video card so I decided its time to upgrade, the insallation went fine it booted and everything, but when I try to play Unreal Tournament it freezes after about 3 mins. I have a asus motherboard with a 466 celeron. I am just using the driver cd that came with the board. Thanks for all the help and be really specific im a newbie

Hmm it'd be nice if you would have included as much information with your post as you could have but oh well..

First off it doesnt have to be your video card but it probley is if you just switched over from the ati.

Try changing some bios settings (usually can get into your bios by pushing delete while your computer is booting). Try loading defaults and if you have a normal and optimal video settings mode try both and see what happens. Everything you do in your bios can be fixed easily and you cant harm anything so experiment with settings.. but try to stick with video card related ones such as video rom caching ect.

After that, if you cant get any success, try formatting your hard drive and reinstalling windows. It could be a driver problem or some other software on your hard drive.
Next I wouldnt know what to tell you besides just junk the computer and wait for the new DDR athlon mainboard to be available.. if you upgrade to a AMD thunderbird you will wonder why you bothered to trouble shoot that intel anyway.

Doh....mine does the same thing, just after I installed a GeForce GTS...except I have an Athlon 850....I tried the drivers included with the card and the Detonator 3 ones, they both have problems....

You are just experiencing the Wonderful World of Nvidia. The worst stability and compatibility of any card. That's Nvidia for ya.

Anyway we still need more details, but if all else fails you might try to reformat your hard drive and do a clean Windows install. What version of the Detonator3's are you using?

Well my own cheap Sparkle Geforce2 MX(6.31 drvers) is rock solid(I`m a hardcore gamer 120+ games last count),before this my TNT card was also rock solid on a different board ,btw I now have MSI K7T PRO & T-bird system wth my MX, anyway back to helping out Raptor go into Bios disable fastwrites(if they are there)disable all video shadowing, next did you uninstall the old drivers(ATI) first before installing the new drivers this could be the problem.

Also does it freeze just on UT or all your games?

The video card worked for the sims anybody know if the sims is 3D and is it possible that the Unreal CD had a scratch on it?? I did uninstall the ATI drivers but not the right way, I just deleted them rather then uninstalling them?? Andbody got any more ideas??

Try running UT in OpenGL, also download latest patch for game then see what happens.

If it is only UT that you are having a problem with, it is likely your UT.ini file.

If you installed UT to the default location then point WinExplorer to-

C:\UnrealTournament\System

And locate and delete the UnrealTournament.ini file. The next time you fire up UT it will redetect and properly identify your board(as of now it is trying to use the old ATi board). I would also strongly advise both patching the game to version 4.36 and running the Loki patch..

If your mainboard uses a VIA chipset try upgrading the drivers for it. It solved a similar problem I had.
