Depending on how much you want on a rebate and how much you plan on overclocking or not... the crucial ballistix pc2-8500 is a good deal @ 200$ - 75$ MIR = $125

If not I would go with the crucial, they make a mean product and that is a very good price for those sticks.

If you want to do more than a 50 FSB overclock then i would look into the pc2-8500, it may be a worthwhile investment

this is the exact same question that I have. But if you had to choose between the two rams that the OP was asking about what would you pick?

Btw. I would be pairing the ram with a q6600 and a gig p35c ds3r board.

Either one would be great. The 2GBHZ's are all Micron based now if that is what you are looking for. Micron owns Crucial so of course they use Micron chips.

I went with the cheaper 2GBNQ G.Skill sticks because they use a lower voltage and are still known to go 450Mhz or higher with little effort.

The biggest drawback to the Micron based sticks are that they often need more voltage when overclocking than many motherboards can deliver. They also occasionally cause boot problems because they require more memory voltage than the industry standard of 1.8v.

Promos are decent... they use a voltage regulator on PCB which won't allow for the crazy overclocks people see with the micron D9's. If you aren't a big time overclocker, than you will be more than happy with the Promos chips.

Personally i would recommend the crucial sticks because they are on sale big time at newegg and mwave.com They use D9's and are capable of very tight timings. For example i am running 3-3-3-9 @ DDR2-800, but they do require a lot of voltage (i have to use 2.3V). I believe the DDR2-800 crucials can do DDR2-1000 at 4-4-4-12. keep in mind that my set is actually mushkin and have D9GMH's

I can't open that link etech. i will check it out when XS isn't messed up. I am running my modules right now at 4-4-4-9 @ 2.25V

450MHz represents a 12.5% overclock over 400MHz-rated RAM and doesn't seem that large to me. Most decent DDR2-800 I've come across does 450MHz it with enough voltage. My current RAM does it at 1.9v(stock voltage is 1.8v-2.0v).

Drakore,
I would suggest you reconsider running over 2.25V to your ram if you want it to last very long. I just killed a set of Ballistix by running 2.3V to them 24/7 for 2 weeks:| . I was quite mad to say the least. I ordered a set of OCZ reapers from Frys.com for $99, and they work great. They will run DDR 1025 @ 5-4-4-15 @ 2.25V with no trouble. As for the stupid comment F1N3ST made, I'm 90% sure that my chips are Promos. They will run DDR 800 @ 4-3-3-10 @ 2.25V, or my current o/c listed above. My Ballistix wouldn't do any higher then DDR 1050 unles s I fed them 2.4V.
