for starters, the specs:

AMD 64 3200+ Winchester
Asus A8N-SLI
1GB Nanya DDR400 PC3200 Ram
520w Super-Flower PSU
Gainward Ultra GeForce 6600GT 128MB (PCI-E)
1 x NEC DVD-RW 16x Dual Layer
1 x 52x CD-RW

Now, for the problem, ever since i got this new pc (a home build) it has been crashing, originally it was faulty ram, with the ram replaced i still had the same problem, and that is i get usually a screen freeze and need a reboot, and the odd BSOD which is usually one of:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
or
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

after readin these and other forums i have tried several different quick fixes (11 in total) and nothing will fix it

this computer runs fine while idle on windows (i turned it on and left it for 4 hours last night) but as soon as play a game, listen to music or watch a video it crashes to one of those blue screens or freezes and all you can here is the last sound bite looping.

The first thing i tried was using one stick of ram, from this the pc did not post at all, i tried putting the ram in different slots and again it didnt boot - after speaking to the company i bought the ram off i apparantly have "Dual Memory" motherboard and it will not run without 2 sticks in.

So i moved on to updating all the drivers - and even using the beta ones - to using the original drivers from the cds. i also updated my bios which is now version 1001.

after i still had no improvement i set about removing uneeded pci cards (sound blaster audigy 2) and disabling onboard devices, namely the onboard sound.

So at this point i have no sound enabled, all my startup items are disabled through msconifg (another supposed fix) and im STILL getting problems with the games i have installed.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated, thank you!

So it looks like your sound hardware may be at fault. You've mentioned that it is onboard sound, and that you've already tried a bunch of drivers with no problem. You tell us it had bad memory but changing the memory did not help.

You might want to RMA that motherboard.

Well, you can't run in dual memory mode without 2 sticks, but you will be able to run your computer normally on one stick. Might have to change a setting in the BIOS first though

Also kick the memory voltage up to 2.7 volts (this setting's in Advanced > JumperFree Configuration in the BIOS). If you put the Audigy 2 back in, put it in the bottom PCI slot.

i tried the memory voltage on auto and 2.9 with it making no difference, does prime95 require any OS installed (the pc currently has no operating system on it as i put the hard drive in this pc to get it working)

Did you do a fresh install everytime you moved that hard drive because you do realize you can't swap hard drives between different motherboards.

Try disabling every thing in device manager that you don't need, sound, nic, usb, firewire, etc...

If system appears stable, turn thing on 1 at a time.

ive tried most if not all of the above, and yes amdskip i aint that stupid - fresh install everytime

ive decided when i get paid to replace the motherboard, after many hours spent in the phone queue of microdirect.co.uk that its going to be easier to admit defeat with them and go to a different company, ive spoke to an asus tech guy and gave them the same information as i gave here, and he recommended returning the motherboard to the company.

i guess its just going to be an admittance of a £135 loss.

which leads me to another question, anyone got any recommendation on online retailers? - i hear scan.co.uk and novatech are good?

ps

sorry for the long time to reply (been busy pestering microdirect, working, and meeting college assignment deadlines)
